If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Plain Pursuit by Beth Wiseman

Plain Pursuit by Beth Wiseman

Book Description:
When Carley Marek takes a hiatus from her job, she leaves Texas and visits her friend Lillian in Amish country, Pennsylvania. Carley isn’t there long when she meets Lillian’s charming—but shunned—brother-in-law, Dr. Noah Stoltzfus.

When Lillian's stepson is stricken with a life-threatening disease, Noah is forbidden to intervene, but he resolves to do whatever it takes to save the boy's life. Carley finds herself caught in the middle of her feelings for Noah and her loyalty to Lillian. And to further complicate matters, everyone around her is talking about God--a God she doesn’t know and who appears to be punishing her for her past mistakes.

When her hiatus is up, Carley must make a life-changing decision: stay and face the path that is set before her, or flee and leave the only love she’s ever known.

My thoughts: This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. I totally loved everything about it. I love reading about the Amish people and I love traveling to their communities here in Ohio and visiting. Anyway, back to the book. The character Carley had some hard things that had occurred in her life and it was interesting to read about how she was learning to cope with them as she visited with her Amish friend and family. It was very interesting to learn more about shunnings and what the Amish are really attempting to accomplish when they shun someone. I have a hard time believing that shunning is the right way to do things, but at least I understand a little more about it and the reasons they do it. It also very much shows you how the Amish come together as a community to help their own through all kinds of hardships. If you enjoy reading about the Amish at all, then this book is definitely for you

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com <http://BookSneeze.com> book review bloggers program. Random Dozen

Click on the above button to visit Linda at 2nd Cup of Coffee and play along.

1. How good are you at delaying gratification?
I'm not very good at waiting, unfortunately. Something I definitely need to work on.
2. Maybe a marshmallow wouldn't be too difficult a temptation for you. What food (or anything else) would be most tempting?
Yeah, a marshmallow wouldn't be bad, but now any kind of chocolate would be a real problem.
3. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being saintly) how patient are you?
On a good day, maybe an 8, but on every other day about a 4.
4. Have you ever waited for something in life only to be disappointed upon realization of the goal/object/etc.?
Yes
5. Are you a person who takes shortcuts?
Yes, sometimes.
6. Which line is hardest to wait in?
Checkout line
7. Did you wait to discover the gender of your unborn child until its birth?
8. Are you more patient with children or the elderly?
Elderly
9. Did you ever sneak a peek at a present?
I don't think so, because I don't want to ruin the surprise.
10. What is the longest you've ever waited for anything?
To get married. I was 31. Or to retire - I'm still waiting after 33 years of working.
11. Who has more patience, you or your significant other?
Dad (I asked Kelli and she said dad too. What in the world does that say about me.)
12. Which of the following songs about waiting is your pick for the best? (OK, you may substitute another, if you like.)
A) Anticipation by Carly Simon
B) The Waiting by Tom Petty
C) Right Here Waiting for You by Richard Marx
D) Wait for Me by Rebecca St. James
I'd say Anticipation, mainly cause I don't think I know the others. lol

Accident

First of all, if you haven't take a look at my earlier post this morning here.  I was talking about what a wonderful morning it was.  Well just a short time after finishing that post.  I received a call from Kelli who had just left for school.

She said "Mom, I slid off the road."

"Are you alright?"

"Yes"

"Where are you?"

"Just down the road."

"Can I walk there?"

She laughed, "Yes."

Sure enough I walked to the end of the drive and there she was about 2 houses down.  We are the 2nd house on our street and she had slid through the stop sign and over into the ditch.  See what I mean?

So I walked down to check things out and then we came back to the house.  I had to figure out what to do.  Remember hubby was already gone on a hospital visit.  So I called work and told them I'd be late and then called the Sheriff's Office for a report and then finally called AAA for a wrecker.  Of course I did call hubby and get input from him as to what to do too.  We walked back to the car and waited for everyone to show up.

Finally they did, and we got the car towed and the report made and unfortunately a ticket written.  I was sure hoping that wouldn't happen.
After everything was over, we walked home and Tracy came in just a short time later.  We let Kelli stay home from school and we took Kerri in and I went to work.  Got there about 11:00am.  One of my bosses came in later with a Bike Officer's Helmet and gave it to me to take home to Kelli and tell her she needed to start wearing this when she was driving.  As you can see, she was willing to model it, but I think if she sees my boss anytime soon his life won't be worth spit.  lol

Kelli's ok, just a small bump and abraision on her forehead and she had a pretty bad headache this afternoon.  But she's feeling better and we ordered in pizza for supper.  So I think she feels a little pampered and she's recovering nicely.

Mom, on the other hand, is exhausted.   I don't like my kids to have accidents.  But God I know you knew what you were doing this morning when you let me have such a relaxing time, because you knew this was going to happen and if I'd already been rushed, I probably would've gone off the deep end.  Thank you for knowing me and what is going to happen to my family and taking care of us Lord.  As I've said before, you are totally amazing and awesome!!

King Cake Giveaway

Go visit "The Bayou Belles and Their Beau" and win a King Cake.  I've never had a King Cake but I entered and hope to win so I can try it.  And if you're not interested in a King Cake, check out her blog anyway.  She is awesome fun to read.

Wonderful Morning

Well, we have more snow this morning. The girls have a 2 hour delay for school. Tracy is already up and gone. He had a hospital visit this morning. A church member is having surgery and he wanted to be with them for prayer beforehand.

It's been a good morning even with the snow. God woke me up for my Bible study and that's finished and was good. Then I had time to finish the book I've been reading. And that was very good. You'll hear more about that real soon as I'll be doing a review here this week on it.  It's just been a good and relaxing morning.  Time to pray and be with God, time for reading and breakfast.  Most mornings are so rushed, but this was wonderful.

But now I guess I need to go get ready for work and quit putting it off.

Have a great day everyone!!

SkyWatch Friday

Click on the button above to go to the SkyWatch Friday blog and view other skies all over the world.

Is anyone else getting a little tired of the white or grey skies? We've had a lot of this in the last few weeks. These 2 pictures above are from the 10th of January. Today if I had taken a picture it would've looked about the same except it's rainy and most of the snow is gone. I must admit though I do like the looks of the icy tree branches. Below is a big ole blue sky like I'm longing for!

Happy SkyWatch Friday everyone and have a wonderful weekend.

Random Dozen

Linda at 2nd Cup of Coffee gives us these Random Dozen Questions every week to answer. Why not click on the button above and visit her and join in on the fun. You never know what she'll ask.

1. So I was thinking about how Jon Bon Jovi never seems to age much. His hair is smaller nowadays, but he still manages to look like a boy somehow. And then that made me think of the story of Dorian Gray. Question: If you physically lock in one age for yourself, which would you choose and why?
31. That's when I got married and I liked how I looked and felt at that time in my life.

2. What is the best dish that you cook or bake (your piece de resistance?)
Lasagna

3. When you feel blue, what is one strategy you use to help yourself back to normal?
Listen to and sing music.

4. When was the last time you danced in public?
I don't dance in public unless you count the chicken dance and I did that 2 years ago on our trip to Disney World.

5. Do you consider yourself a realist or dreamer?
I think I'm both, but probably mostly a realist.

6. As a parent, what is one thing that you have done well?
hahahahahahaha yeah right! Survived (so far anyway!)

7. Which is your favorite character on the Andy Griffith show?
Andy, when he's telling a story such as Romeo and Juliet.

8. On a scale of 1-10, how much do you know about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.?
Probably about a 4, although I did get to go to his museum about 16 years ago in Memphis which is at the hotel where he was killed. As I recall it was very interesting and I learned a lot, but I'm sad to say I've forgotten a lot of it now.

9. Have you never been mellow? Have you never tried … to find a comfort from in side you? (Sorry, Jorge was singing that song just now, and it just seemed to be perfect timing as I was creating this week’s questions.) REAL question: What is your #1 driving pet peeve?
Some riding on my tail. Just back off and give me a little space or go around if you must. Just please don't tailgate!

10. Which color best represents your mood today? Care to elaborate?
I have no idea. I'm not in a bad mood or anything. I'm just kinda there today. I know I'm blessed of the Lord and I don't really feel like complaining or whining, but I'm not out there jumping around and happy either. Maybe content would be my mood. What color is that?

11. If your spouse were an animal, which would he/she be?
Well my mood just went up. I'm cracking up at this question. Hubby says he's a mule cause he's stubborn. But I don't agree although he can be stubborn sometimes. I'd say a dog because he accepts and loves me unconditionally and is always happy when I come home.

12. What activity takes up the bulk of your time on an average day?
My job, but if I'm off it would probably be blogging and reading.

Just Have to Share

Just saw this on FB and had to share it with you all!

Ju

Good Morning!

We've had a wonderful weekend.  Very quiet and mostly peaceful.  And now today is Monday and I DON'T HAVE TO GO TO WORK!  YEAH!!!!  Love me a holiday!

It's started out perfect so far.  Everyone else slept in and I got up and spent some time with God and Beth Moore in a video from Breaking Free!  God always seems to hit me right where I need to be hit.  And this time was no exception.  I'm just so thankful He loves me enough to make me move up when I need to.

Now, I'm catching up on the blog world and then who knows what the day will hold.  I'm pretty sure it will entail a trip to the grocery and to Walmart and probably going out for lunch.  Then I hope it's just a bunch of relaxing here at home.  One of my very favorite kinds of day!

I hope you all have a great day!

2010 Project 365 - Week 3

Sunday 1/10/2010

We went out to lunch after church at our local Mexican Restaurant and Kelli's boyfriend came along.

And so did Kerri's friend that spent the night with her.
Monday 1/11/2010

Tracy, Kerri and I went to Krogers after work.  Of course, this is Kerri with her ever-present cell phone.  I call it her umbilical cord.

Tuesday 1/12/2010

My new Crocs for work.  Man, they are like wearing houseshoes all day.  Who cares if they're ugly when they feel that good?
Wednesday 1/13/2010

Finally a little bit of blue skies and sunshine.
Thursday 1/14/2010

Kerri and I went out for breakfast before work and school.  Love this one on one time.
Friday 1/15/2010

Friday night was a stay at home and relax kinda night.  Here I am watching TV in my Snuggie and playing on the computer all at the same time.  That's hubby under the plaid comforter beside me, but he didn't want in the picture.  How's this for being real, I didn't even clean up the mess before the picture.
Saturday 1/16/2010

This is my kinda shopping.  $1.00 books from Half-Price Books.  These will be added to the church library when I'm finished with them.  A bunch of our ladies love to read them.

Well that was our week.  Why don't you click the button above and join in on the fun with the rest of us at Sara's
