If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Loving Them Now

I've met a new friend recently and we were talking after church last night. She told me they lost their 13 year old daughter to cancer a couple years ago. You know I really didn't know what to say when she told me. I can't even imagine what that must be like. But she said she had noticed during church that my youngest daughter and I were holding hands for a short time. She said it reminded her so much of her daughter. And in her saying that it made me think that I really need to enjoy these days and times with my girls. They won't always be here. I pray I will never lose them to death in my life time, but we don't know what God has in store for us.

But I do know that one day (and it really won't be that long) they will move out to start their own lives. I know I will miss them and I know I need to make as many memories as I can now. Now Lord willing when this happens, they'll come home often, but God could call them to a far away land, like he has so many people.

I think this was just a real wake up call for me.
Lord help me to remember and help me to love my girls while I have them at home. Help me to treasure each moment you give us together.

And this is the prayer my husband and I pray almost nightly for our girls.

Lord, I ask you to place a hedge of protection around our girls and to open the eyes of their heart to see You more and more.

But what a reminder... we need to do that with EVERYONE we care about... dont know how blessed we are to have each day we have with one another.

  2. Oh girl... I remember the day my daughter got married. It was bittersweet. I was so happy for her because she was so happy, but at the same time I was sad for me. Because I knew I had to go back to the empty house. It had been just me and her for 4 years after her dad had left, and all of a sudden it was just me. It was hard. But when I got home after her wedding there was a note in my bedroom from her and she told me how much she loved me, and that she would call me...tonight and tonight was crossed out and tomorrow was written in, and I had to laugh. Needless to say we are just as close today as we were then, usually talking to each other every other day if not every day. They may move on but definitely they stay in our hearts. Treasure this time with your girls!

    until next time... nel

  4. What a beautiful post, Cathy! The life & love of our family members should be treasued daily, but you are right, we sometimes take it for granted

I am so blessed to have my son & his precious family living only 4 miles away from me. I do treasure the time we spend together & I realize that being In full time ministry can easily put many miles between us. But God has not required that of us and for that I am extremely thankful!

Thank you for this sweet post.

    Love,
    Sherry

  8. Mine are in college now and are living away from home. The Lord prepares us for this season I think but there are moments when I long for the days of little girls.

I'm sorry for your friend...I cannot imagine.

I love the prayer you have for your children. I pray something similar for my own. They may leave home but they never outgrow their need for parents who pray.

  9. Wow. This about made me cry. My son is already talking about going to college and he's only 10, but you know, college really isn't too far away.

Thanks for making stop to think about today instead wishing for tomorrow.

  10. Oh, Cathy. I am in such an emotional state right now.

We lost a dear friend this week to lung cancer. She was only 47. SHe leaves behind a wonderful husband and an awesome 11 year old son. How my heart breaks for those she left behind.

So, please...enjoy your time with your children. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow.

I am so thankful that our hope is in the Lord!!!

  13. My kids hold my hand often, too. In church, in the car...it's so sweet. I will definitely miss that. I miss it with my 16 yr old son already. He was my sweet boy for 5 years before the other 2 came along. Then he became a daddy's boy. My 11 yr old is still a mama's boy, and my 10 yr old daughter is most definitely a mama's girl. As much as they can aggravate, I will miss them hanging on me!
