Flashback Friday - Let's go to the movies.

What movies were popular when you were growing up? Did you go to the movies very frequently? Do you remember what was the first movie you ever saw? What is your favorite genre of movies? What were your favorites then, and have they withstood the test of time? Do you have any particular memories associated with movies? Was buying snacks a regular part of the movie experience? What was your favorite movie snack? Have you ever been in a movie or seen one being filmed?

My answers:  I remember going to the "Town Hall" in our town and watching movies when I was little.  The one I remember most is "Lady and the Tramp."  I remember after watching it we went across the street to the Dime Store and I bought a little glass figurine of Lady.  I have no idea what happened to that figurine, but I remember getting it.  I still love Lady and here's a picture of a drawing Kelli did for me a couple years ago.

When my parents became Christians when I was about 5 or so, our church taught against going to movies, so from then until I was 18 that was something we just didn't do (the church no longer teaches this way as strictly).

I remember there was a revival of "Gone With the Wind" when I was 18 and a girlfriend asked me to go see it with her.  I asked my mom if I could go and she said, you're 18 now, you'll have to decide for yourself.  So anyway, I went and saw it.  What a great movie and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to see it on the big screen.

Since then I have read the book and the screenplay and seen the movie on TV too.  I have also read the sequel "Scarlett"!  As you can see this is one movie I have really enjoyed a lot..

I have never been in a movie, but there have been 2 movies filmed in our town since I have been working for the police department.  Our officers have worked a lot of overtime for traffic control and security for these filmings.  The first movie was "Harper Valley PTA" with Barbara Eden.  My younger sister was used as a stand-in for Barbara when they were setting the lights and stuff for the scenes to be shot.  Also, Woody Harrelson comes from my town and got his start in this movie.

The other movie filmed in our town was "Milk Money" with Melanie Griffith.  I got to see a little bit of the car chase seen being filmed.  I never went to the movies to see either "Milk Money" or "Harper Valley PTA" but I have seen then both on TV.

I still enjoy going to the theater to see a good movie and my favorite movie snack is Raisonettes!

  1. Enjoyed reading this. I never particularly cared for GWTW. It was kinda depressing.

Your daughter is quite an artist!

  3. Loved strolling down movie memory land.....I, too, grew up in a denomination the taught against going to the moves, so I don't have many memories of movies of yesteryear....However, I loved Mild Money on TV, loved anything with horses or westerns - I'm a horse lover and a cowgirl at heart!!

Hope all is well in your corner of the world, Cathy. I'm trying to get back in my bloggy groove since surgery and wanted to stop by and see how you're doing!

    Have a blessed weekend!
