If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Flashback Friday

What toys do you remember from your childhood? What did you like to do to entertain yourself? Did you mostly play inside or outside? Did you ride a bike all over the neighborhood? Play baseball in the backyard? Basketball in the driveway? Did you have to "get permission" to play at a friend's house, or were you and your friends back and forth between houses all the time? If you had siblings, was there a distinction between your toys and theirs? Did you "inherit" any toys from older siblings? What were the "fad" or "must-have" toys of your generation? Did you parents buy them? Was there a toy you always wanted and never got to have?

Yes, I had a Chatty Cathy doll and yes, that was also one of my nicknames.  I guess I talked all the time.  I guess I still do. hahaha  I loved this doll, until I left it laying on the garage floor and my dad ran over it.

I loved playing jacks.

And I remember having this style of skate and skating around and around in circles in our garage singing.

I know I had lots of other dolls and toys, but these are the specific things I remember.  I know we spent hours and hours outside playing on the swingset and in the sandbox and riding bikes, etc.  We spent most of the time outside in the summer.  I also remember from time to time we'd get a big appliance box of some type and we'd spend days and weeks playing in that box.  We'd make submarines and all kinds of stuff with a box.    I also spent lots of time playing with my dolls and pretending I was the mommy.  And we used to play church too.  We'd use the staircase as the pews and someone would preach and someone would take up the offering.  We had a blast!  I really don't remember ever being bored as a child.  May have been.  Guess I'd have to ask my mom that question.  But with 5 kids, there was almost always someone to play with.

  1. I wouldn't dare put on a pair of skates now, but I'll play you in jacks!

    Enjoyed your memories, as always!

  2. Oh I loved the skates. With a key. Somehow having that key made you feel important and grown up : )

    Enjoy your weekend!

  3. Cathy, I forgot--I loved those skates too! Hard to believe, because I NEVER skate now!

Did you see my comment about my aversion to Chatty Cathy? LOL!

Loved your post & your pretty blog! Thanks for commenting on mine.

  5. Isn't it funny how when you read someone else's post you think of something else. You will never believe what I ran on to a couple months ago. My key for my skates. And then of course that made me think of Melanie's song "Brand New Key". lolol Enjoyed your memories!
    until next time... nel

  6. I wanted a Chatty Cathy doll, too. My name is spelled with a K rather than a C (Kathy vs Cathy), and I, too, was nicknamed Chatty Cathy (I guess that should be Chatty Kathy LOL).

  7. Hi Cathy
I had skates like that and I played outside all the time too. Your poor doll!

  8. What a way for Chatty Cathy to meet her demise! :)

My favorite toy was my Mrs. Beasley doll. My mom gave me the collectible anniversary edition several years ago. I have no idea what happened to my original Mrs. Beasley but the newer one is in my curio!

  9. I love that you played "church." That's one game I don't remember us kids ever playing--probably because we had plenty of experience doing "real" church. When I was little, we belonged to a very small congregation and my family did a lot. We kids helped with the sound system, taking up offering, whatever. And we could always share a testimony during the little time set apart for "open-mic" style testimonies.
