If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Friday Fragments

Mommy's Idea

Finally got the decorations on the tree last night. I love it! Except the tree is so tall that I don't think our tree toppers will fit on it. We have a star, a Santa and an angel. We bought a new tree this year and it is 7.5 feet tall. I only have about 6 inches to the ceiling and my toppers are too big. Anybody have any suggestions?

We have 2 weeks until my oldest daughter comes home for Christmas break. Yay!!! And we have a lot of things we need to get done. We have to paint the main bathroom and do some minor repairs. We have to move furniture and overhaul the bedroom she will be using. Going to be a busy 2 weeks!

Anybody else enjoying watching all the Hallmark Christmas movies as much as I am? I love this time of the year for movie watching!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Joyce tells us it's only four hodgepodges til Christmas in case you were wondering.  Click the button above to play along.

1. With that being said I think I need to dive right in to some Christmas related questions, don't you? Which do you prefer-pretty gift wrap with a bow or a pretty gift bag with/without a bow? What percentage of your holiday gifts are currently (as in right this very minute) wrapped in some form or fashion?
Depends.  If I'm wrapping then I prefer a bag without a bow.  However if I'm unwrapping, I prefer a pretty gift wrap with a bow.  I have not wrapped anything yet except the gifts for the kids on the giving tree.  Hubby and did those last night.

2. What is one item on your Christmas list this year?
Dolly Parton's new book, "Dream More."

3. What makes a home?
Love and respect for those living there.

4. Motown founder Berry Gordy celebrates his birthday on Hodgepodge Day-November 28th. Are you a fan of the Motown sound? If so, who's your favorite Motown artist and/or song? Here's a list in case you're stuck.
I wouldn't consider myself a fan, but I recognized several on that list.  I like "I'll Be There" by the Jackson 5.

5. Red or green-which one is more prevalent in your closet?
I really don't have a lot of either, but I definitely have more red and green.

6. True or false-bacon makes it better? If you answered true, what's your favorite dish made with bacon?
True.  BLT Sandwiches

7. Share a favorite holiday memory.
The Christmas that the girls were 2 and 5.  I had to work dayshift that day so we got the girls up about 6am so we could all be together.  We opened gifts and had our time together.  Then I had to leave for work and hubby had to put all the Barbie paraphernalia together.  You know there are about a 1000 pieces to those things.  Sometimes having to work a holiday isn't all bad! haha

8. Insert your own random thought here.
We've had our tree up for a couple weeks but we still have yet to put the first ornament on it.  Maybe tonight we'll start.  I don't know what we're waiting on.  :)  Oh by the way, click on my sidebar and check out the Christmas Tree Photo Link Party that's taking place on December 19th.  Looking forward to it (well, if I get my ornaments on the tree in time.)

Photo Questions??

I wanted to do my Post-It Note blog post today, but they are added as photos. Blogger is telling me I have used all my space in Picasa and need to now purchase space in order to add any more photos.

My questions are:

1. Has this happened to you and what did you do?

2. Is there anyway around it, without having to pay monthly for space?

3. Is Picasa the only way to put photos on Blogger?

Thank you for your help in answering these questions for me.

Weekend Wrap-Up

We had a nice Thanksgiving with family. There were 26 of us together and the food and fellowship was great! Thanks Jeff and Jamie for hosting.

Believe it or not, I ended up going out shopping with a girlfriend and 4 teenage girls. We went to a local mall and were there from 11p to about 3am. It was ridiculous but so much fun to watch. My girlfriend and I mostly just sat and watched and carried the girls bags so they could shop some more. About 2am or so I finally bought a couple of things.

I slept in a little then that morning and then hubby and I went to Red Lobster for lunch. By far, the best Red Lobster meal I've had in a long, long time. Yummy!

Saturday we finished shopping for the kids for the giving tree. That is always so much fun to do. Of course, now I need to wrap them (which is not quite as much fun. haha).

Went to mom and dad's that evening and visited with the family again.

Sunday was church. Excellent morning worship service. Great message on "keeping on believing". Then we went to lunch with my husband's parents and his brother and wife and the nephews. His parents just got back into town Friday night. It was great being with them.

So it's been a great weekend with family and friends. Hope yours was good too.

Wednesday Hodgepodge Thanksgiving

1. Turkey-love it or leave it? White meat or dark? What's your favorite thing to make using leftover turkey?
Love the white meat.  Left-overs....turkey sandwiches with mayo is what I like.  Turkey Salad isn't bad either.

2. Gotta burn off all those carbs the day after a holiday feast so which would you rather do-run a 10K or climb a mountain?
Neither....but I'd be willing to walk a 10K, but no running.  Or I'd be willing to look at a mountain, but no climbing.  :)

3. Do you feel like social networking has made your relationships better or worse? Explain.
Better because I have a tendency to stay a little closer and more involved in day to day life with those I social network with.  Especially those who live a distance away.

4. How do you find and express gratitude for the hard things in your life?
Prayer and more prayer.

5. In the US, the day after Thanksgiving has been dubbed 'Black Friday'. Is most of your holiday shopping done live and in person, or is it done more through the magic of the Internet? How do you feel about stores opening at midnight Thanksgiving night? Will you be out amongst the masses on Friday?
I do not like Black Friday shopping because its just crazy.  Our local Walmart is starting there Black Friday sales on Thursday at 8pm and I think that's just plain crazy.  Hubby and I usually go out on Black Friday, but not until later in the day when the crowds are down.  As far as Christmas shopping, I haven't begun yet, but it will be a mix of online and store shopping.

6. Speaking of the color black-which black item in your wardrobe would you say is your favorite?
My black pants because I can mix them with so many different tops and sweaters.

7. What do you appreciate about your life today?
The fact that I am still alive and healthy and able to enjoy it.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I'm looking forward to the family celebration tomorrow.  There's going to be a big crowd (about 27 or so) at my brother's house.  So much fun.  I will miss my oldest daughter as she won't be home until Dec. 13th, but my youngest is supposed to be there.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Friday Fragments

Mommy's Idea

I'm joining Mrs. 4444 for Friday Fragments. You can join in here.

We put our new Christmas tree up last night. It's really pretty and it's really tall. I don't think I'll be able to put a topper on it. We'll put the ornaments on later, but I'm enjoying just the lights right now.

Been doing a lot of organizing and cleaning this week. Not much fun, but sure is nice getting things done.

Our van broke down on Wednesday. Hubby believes its the starter. It's at the garage and we hope it will be fixed tomorrow.

Tried something new at supper the other night. We took crescent rolls and put a couple thin slices of ham and a slice of swiss cheese and then rolled it up and baked it. They were really awesome and really easy. I love hot ham and cheese sandwiches.

Have a great weekend.

I saw this on FB and it made me laugh. And I don't know about you, but I can always use a good laugh.

Wednesday Hodgepodge Is Back! #101

Click the button above when you're done here and play along. We always have a good time.

1. What rule of life should never be broken?
Love others as you love yourself.

2. What's your favorite family recipe?
My dad's peanut butter fudge (which by the way is the best in the world).  He's been making it ever since I can remember.  Sometimes he'd let us scrape the pan when we were young and lick the spoon.  Delicious.  However, I don't have the recipe, because if I did, I'd be as big as the side of a barn.  My sister can make it too.  So I only get it when my dad or sister make it.  Which is definitely for the best.

3. Is the media manipulative?
Most assuredly.  Take a look at this last election.  And that is all I'm saying on this.  :)

4. Hubs and I saw Skyfall last weekend...are you a fan of the Bond films? If so, who's your favorite Bond?
Yes I like some James Bond movies.  Pierce Brosnan is my favorite Bond and Roger Moore is next.

5. What is one thing you hope people never say about you?
I hope no one ever says that I am mean and/or hateful.

6. What's a nearby tourist attraction you'd like to see, but haven't gotten around to visiting?
Columbus Zoo

7. Where's your favorite tree?
Sitting in the front yard where I work.  I don't know what kind it is, but it's just really nicely shaped.  It has red berries on it this time of year.  It's always beautiful.  Here are a couple of pictures I've posted in the past of this tree.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
My new light over the dining table.  My brother found it at an auction or garage sale when I was in Florida.  It cost $15.00.  I totally love it.

That same brother was remodeling a kitchen and they had a dishwasher that they were replacing with a new one.  However, the old one still works.  They let my brother have it and he gave it to me.  It is actually the same brand and model that I have.  However mine was a scratch and dent sale and never has worked right.  We haven't even used it in probably over a year.  My other brother came yesterday and installed it for us (along with the light) and I used it last night and it works wonderfully!  I feel like I have a brand new kitchen and dining room!  I love cheap and free stuff when it's like these two things.  haha

Christmas Is Coming

Okay, I want to know something. Am I the only one already listening to Christmas music? I've been listening here at work since November 1st. I love Christmas music and if we don't start listening early we only get about a month of it. I personally think it deserves much more time than that. haha

Of course, that doesn't explain why I'm already thinking about Christmas decorations. Hubby and I went out this weekend and bought a new 7.5 foot tree. Can't wait to put that up. Hopefully, that will be sometime this next week. I know, I know...Thanksgiving isn't even here yet. I love Thanksgiving. I really do, but come on, the decorations for Thanksgiving aren't nearly as fun as Christmas decorations. haha

I promise, I'll keep my blinds pulled when the tree lights are on until after Thanksgiving or maybe Thanksgiving night. Hubby and I will just enjoy them in the privacy of our home. Will that be okay? haha I'll even try to contain myself and not show pictures of our Christmas tree until after Thanksgiving too.

So okay, are there any more of you out there that are early Christmas celebrators? Come on....don't leave me hanging here by myself!

If Not Now...When?

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14

If we (His people) will:  humble ourselves
                                      pray
                                      seek His face
                                      turn from our wicked ways

Then He (God) will:      hear from heaven
                                      forgive our sin
                                      heal our land

That's a promise

No matter who is President, Senator, Representative, Governor, Mayor, etc our country is hurting and needs healing. We as God's people, need to heed this scripture.

A Wreath of Snow by Liz Curtis Higgs

Are you looking for a good book to read that takes place around Christmas time?  Well, here's a wonderful  novella by Liz Curtis Higgs.

About this book:  How will Margaret Campbell bind the wounds that have torn apart her family? And how can Gordon Shaw make amends, when the consequences of his past mistakes cannot be erased? A tender story of love and forgiveness, wrapped in a celebration of all things Scottish, all things Victorian, and especially, all things Christmas.

My thoughts:   I love reading books that take place around the Christmas season and this one did not disappoint.  Liz Curtis Higgs is a master at developing characters and storylines that grab you from the beginning and keep you all through the book so that at the end you don't want to say goodbye.  This was such a story.  Margaret and Gordon are two people who had suffered for many years over a terrible tragedy that had occurred in their young life.  This is their wonderful story of forgiveness and restoration.   I highly recommend this book.

Chapter One can be read here.  And here's the Video Trailer.

Liz Curtis Higgs is a wonderful author and you can find her Bio right here.  and here's her website.

Friday Fragments

Tuesday evening was the last session for our Bible Study on James. We had such a sweet evening. I love this group of women so much and will miss them until our next study starts in March. Oh and if you're looking for a good Bible Study, Beth Moore's "James, Mercy Triumphs" is really awesome.

Wednesday - hubby passed out Halloween candy to the kids brave enough to face the elements. It was cold and there was a misty rain falling. He sat out on the front porch, wrapped up in a comforter and gave out handsful of candy. I sat out there with him for about 40 minutes, but I have a bit of a cold and couldn't stand to be out there much longer. So I went in and cooked supper instead. A young couple has moved into the house across the street from us and they covered their garage door with plastic and it said "Enter if you dare". Then the man was dressed up and had a chain saw and would chase the braver kids down the drive with it running. So funny. For the littler kids, if they were scared he would take his mask off and show them they didn't need to be afraid and just give them candy. It was so fun watching and laughing at the kids. See, so even in the cold and rain, Trick or Treat can still be fun.

Thursday evening we caught up on NCIS and NCIS LA and I did a little crocheting and I do mean a little...but I guess each stitch makes a project a little closer to finished.

Hope you had a good week.
