Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Have you learned more from success or failure? Explain.
Actually, I've learned a lot from both.  However, I prefer to learn from success.

2.  What did you call your grandparents when you were growing up? If you have children, what do they call your parents? If you have grandchildren, what do they call you?
Grandma and Grandpa for my dad's parents and Mamaw and Papaw for my mom's parents. The girls call both sets Grandma and Grandpa.

3.  You're invited to a luau.  In keeping with that theme, what dish will you bring to share?
An empty one so I can fill it up with what everyone else brought.  haha  No probably shishkabobs with chicken, onions and pineapple.

4. Besides Jesus, what one person's life story do you think everyone should know about?
Abraham Lincoln

5. "Don't sweat the small stuff." Agree or Disagree? Why?
Depends on what the small stuff is.

6.  June is National Rivers Month. When were you last on a river? What's the prettiest river you've ever seen? What's a river you'd like to see?
About a month or so ago, I was on the purple people bridge over the Ohio River.  Does that count?  If you mean actually on the river, it would have been 6-8 years ago when a friend got married on a riverboat on the Ohio river.  I have seen the Mississippi but some day I'd like to take a steam paddle boat ride down the Mississippi.

7.  Speaking of rivers-paddling, fishing, swimming, or bird watching safely from the shore? Which activity would you choose? Yes-you have to choose.
Bird watching or maybe fishing, although I love to swim, but I prefer it in a pool.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Have you ever been to the Longaberger Factory in Ohio.  This is the home offices that are located in Newark, OH.  It is so cool drying by and seeing this gigantic basket.  Yes it is an office building shaped like a basket.

We drove by the other day on the way to Amish Country and got a couple of pictures.  The factory is a little further down the road.  They have tours of the factory where you can watch the workers making the baskets.  We went about 8-10 years ago with the girls and some of the family members that originally started the company were there and I got a basket and a couple of them signed the bottom.  That's supposed to make it worth more.

Anyway, it's a very interesting tour.  I'm hoping hubby and I'll have some time this summer to take another drive up that way and actually stop and take the  tour.  If we do, I'll try to get some more pictures to show you.  If you've never had or seen a Longaberger Basket, you should check out their website.  I believe they are all handmade and they are beautiful and very sturdy.  I've bought a couple myself and have been given several as gifts.  I love them.

Have a great day!

  1. I love Longaberger! I don't have many, but they're wonderful. Some friends of mine planned their vacation around a trip to that factory, but I've never seen it. What fun! : )

  4. We crossed over the purple bridge when we visited Cincinnati several years ago (we went to see the Cardinals play the Reds ... we need to go back to see them play in the new ballpark).

I knew that the Longaberger offices were in a basket shaped building ... I would really like to see that in real life.

  8. I've never been in the factory, but have driven by..it's hard to miss : ) Thank you for the mention of your school district. My daughter applied for two jobs there yesterday in one of the elementary schools. The deadline for apps was today, so your timing was perfect. Almost every district wants the application online only, but they wanted it handwritten and mailed, so she got it done and overnighted. Whew!
