If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Click button above to join in with Joyce at "From This Side of the Pond."

1. Share one way you think the world has changed for the better since you were a kid?
The medical advancements that have been made are pretty great.  Just think of how a hip or knee replacement works now.

2. How 'bout one way it's changed for the worse?
The right to pray and read the Bible in our schools and military and our freedom to speak Jesus name any time and any place being taken away  is destroying our country.

3. Starlight, starfish, starling, Starbucks...your favorite 'star'?
The stars in the sky.  Any time I look at a starlit sky, all I can think about is how awesome our God is.

4. Name a song that's overplayed, but you love it anyway.
I don't know, I don't listen to live radio very often.  But one song I have heard a lot is "I Can Only Imagine" and I totally love that song.

5. When did you last have home made ice cream? Your latest favorite flavor?
I can't even remember the last time I had it but my favorite flavor is just plain old vanilla.

6. What do you think is the best way to inspire or motivate people?
I think example (you doing what you want to inspire them to do).

7. When was the last time you were without power?
Just this past week when we got home from work our power was out.  Of course, the garage door wouldn't work, but fortunately hubby had his front door key (I don't even have one any more. lol).  We came in and just relaxed for a while.  It came on after an hour or so and then we went on with our evening.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Does anybody else like "Castle" on TV.  We've been watching some of the older shows this summer and I've found I really like it.  Why is it I always find out I like a show after it's been on for 2 or 3 seasons. Anyway, hopefully I'll catch up on it.

Porch Chattin'

Everyday Ruralty

Click the button above to join in with "Everyday Ruralty for some Chats on the Farmhouse Porch. It really is a lot of fun. But don't forget to read mine first and comment, if you'd like.

1.  Are you looking forward to fall?
Yes, I am because my vacation is in November!  :)

2.  What are the three best colors for you to wear, and the three worst?
Best - red, pink, purple - i get the most compliments when wearing pink or purple.
Worst- yellow, yellow, yellow - my skin and hair are definitely not good with yellow.

3.  What is your favorite kind of juice? If you are not into juice, you can tell us your favorite flavor of soda, tea, coffee, Tang, mud, etc.
About 30 years ago on the 2nd cruise I went on they had Apricot Nectar and it was the best tasting juice ever....I drank it every morning and if they had it at other meals, I drank it then too.  I've never had it since, but it was wonderful.
I also love that little cup of orange juice they give you at the Florida Welcome Center on I-75 south.  Probably mostly because that means I've finally made if to Florida!

4.  Have you ever been in the hospital (at least an overnight)? You don't need to share the ailment, but tell us what the longest time is.
I've been in the hospital overnight 1 time and I think it was for about 4 nights.  You'd have to ask hubby for sure as I was pretty out of it in the beginning days.

5.  Do jingles, songs from ads, and TV or movie themes stick in your head? Do you find yourself singing them? (This question means that I'm trying to find out if I'm the only crazy person who sings quirky stuff!)
Nope, you are not the only one.  They stick in my head too.  I think my favorite has always been the Oscar Mayer Bologna and Weiner songs.

Now, I bet they are stuck in your head for the day!!

Thanks for visiting today!

Weekend Wrap-Up

We had a fairly quiet weekend. Just the kind I like.

Friday night we brought home Chinese for dinner and just relaxed. I've been reading quite a bit this weekend too.

Saturday we went to a Memorial Service for a friend's son. Then we came home so we could pick up Carina. Her mommy had to work, so hubby and I volunteered to babysit. We took her with us out to lunch and then to Wally World to pick up some needed items. She was absolutely good as gold. We had so much fun playing and laughing with her.

On the way home, she got sleepy and we started singing silly songs trying to keep her awake until we got home, but it didn't work. She fell asleep anyway. Fortunately, she went right back to sleep when we got in the house and slept for about an hour. She woke up and then crawled up to me (I was lying on the bed reading) and she fell back asleep laying on me, so I took a nap with her. haha You know any excuse for a nap will work for me. haha

That evening we went to visit with my parents and took Carina with us. She was definitely the star of the show at their house. She totally loved everybody watching her and talking to her. :)

Sunday, we had excellent church services. We've started a new series on "God's Mountain Man", which is Elijah. I love the stories of Elijah so much.

So that pretty much is our weekend. Here is a little video of Carina outside walking around. If you saw the video I posted last week, you'll notice a big difference in her walking skills. I cannot believe how much difference a week's worth of practice makes.

*    Can I just say, I am so glad I decided to get my hair cut. It is so easy to take care of and I really like it this length.

Before
Now

*   Hubby and I are planning a trip to Myrtle Beach in November (yes I know it will be colder then). We are looking for some ideas of things in the area to do in the off-season. Mostly we are wanting to just enjoy the ocean (oceanfront room) and beach, but would also like some day-trips in the area. Like we are planning to go to the Aquarium and to some of the shopping areas they have. We'd be willing to go as far as Charleston to the south and we probably will. Looking for anything that we could do in one day's time in or around the city of Myrtle Beach. Any ideas?

Have a great weekend everyone!

Just Saying Thanks

Saturday morning hubby and I were heading out to meet my sister and her husband to see a movie and have lunch together.  As we drove through our small town, we were stopped by this.  There was an accident and Careflight was called in to transport a patient.  Now, I work for our local police department and have even been responsible many times to dispatch these people, but I had never seen them in action from this side before.  It was very fascinating.  If you look closely, you can see that the pilot is still in the chopper.  There were 2 women working with him and at this time they were getting the patient.  After they were all loaded, the chopper went straight up (almost directly over our heads) and then took off to the hospital.  I really admire the men and women who work so hard to save the lives of so many people.  And I just want to take this opportunity to recognize the Careflight workers, the police and the firemen for all they do for us as citizens.  I happen to know that the citizen that was taken this day is going to ultimately be alright.  They survived a pretty bad accident because of all the great care that was given.

One Year Old!

Carina turned one year old on Friday.  I can't believe it.  She had a big birthday party on Saturday and received lots of gifts.  Here are a few pictures.

"You mean I'm supposed to eat all that!?!"

"Well, I'll sure do my best!"

"Yummy!"

"Nope, I can't do it!  Okay Mom, come get me.  I'm done!!"
After being cleaned up, opening presents.

"Yep, I'm cute and I know it!"  :)
I just love the look on her face in that last picture!  Happy Birthday, Carinie Beanie!!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What's something people might ask you for help with?
Watching  Carina every once in a while is one thing.  Sometimes I'm asked for advise and sometimes just to listen to someone who needs to vent or to speak ideas out loud as they try to make decisions.

2. What's something you might ask someone else for help with?
Listening and letting me vent.  Also, asking for help with computer issues and problems.

3. Did your family take summer vacations when you were a child? If so, where did you go? If you're a parent, did/do you plan summer vacations with your own family? Did/do they resemble those you took as a child?
When we were little most of our vacations were on Christmas Break and we went to Florida to visit relatives.  We did take vacations with our girls in the summer.  We went to NC quite a few times.  My parents had a vacation home there.  We also did Gatlinburg and Disney, of course.

4. Pool-lake-ocean...which one is most appealing to you on a hot summer day?
If it's really, really hot, then probably a pool.  But I really, want to be by the ocean and enjoy the breezes and the waves.

5. Have you ever justified using the expression, 'you gotta be cruel to be kind'? Was it really necessary or were you rationalizing?
Never really heard that saying before.  But I do believe sometimes you have to be tough, not necessarily cruel, to be kind.

6. The Journal of Psychology recently mentioned the results of a survey identifying the ten most hated foods as-liver, lima beans, mayonnaise, mushrooms, eggs, okra, beets, brussel sprouts, tuna, and gelatin. Of those foods, how many do you actually hate? Anything you'd add to the list?
Liver, lima beans, okra, brussel sprouts.  Yuck!!!

7. What's your favorite book or movie set in a beach or lake town?
Lake House with Sandra Bullock is a favorite.
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants has beautiful beach scenery when they are in Greece!  I so want to go there.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
All this talk about beach houses, etc.  How about something like this?  I think I could be very happy here.

Bacon or sausage? If vegetarian, what do you have for breakfast?
Both please...but if I have to choose just one, then sausage.

Do you take time to "smell the roses"?
Probably not as much as I should.

What's your favorite stone fruit? (Peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots, and cherries are i n the stone fruit family.)
All of them please...but again if I have to choose just one, then plums.

What is the thing people notice most about your personality? ( quiet- outgoing- polite-funny-etc.)
I'm a little shy when walking into a room full of people...but if just one person will start a conversation with me, then I can have and be a lot of fun.  At least, that's what I think.  Not really sure what other people think.

Is there a hobby that you have wanted to do, but haven't started yet?
I think I would like to try to make a quilt.  However, that will probably be a while yet before I do, because I'm really into crocheting right now.  And I'm even thinking of opening an ETSY shop to sell some of what I'm making.

Now, if you'd like to sit on the front porch and chat with us, just click the button above to join in...after you comment here, of course.  :)

Monday Quiz About Me

Acting Balanced

1. What is your favorite summer activity?
Cook-outs with friends and family would be near the top of the list.  Like for Independence Day, we went to my brother's house and they grilled out.  Unfortunately is rained all day, so we ate inside.  But it was still a really fun time because of being with family and friends.

2. Do you have a honey-do list? or a to-do-list of your own?
Only in my head.  I am not much of a list maker.

3. Would you go for a massage?  Facial?  Spa treatment?
I have never had any of the above.  But I think I would love to have a massage.  The other 2 really don't entice me much.

4. What was the last song you danced to?
The chicken dance and that was at Downtown Disney and I think I embarrassed my kids to death.  haha  Actually, I can't dance, never learned.  But hey, who can't do the chicken dance.  I can look silly with the best of them.

5. (#5 is a question I get to ask of you if I want)  My question is:  How was your weekend?
For my answer, I have a couple of pictures.  They were taken Sunday.  After church and lunch out we came home and as this was the first sun we've seen in awhile, I took a couple of pictures of the beautiful blue sky.  And then Sunday night after church, a hot air balloon floated over our house.

Now, let me hear something about your weekend.
