Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Labor Day weekend (in the US of A) is approaching...what's something you've labored over this year?
Adjusting to having a baby in the house.  Lots of it is fun, but some has taken quite a bit of adjustment.  Love that little girl.

2. What is one word to describe your 'job' or career?
"God-given"

3. What was your worst or least favorite job ever? Why?
Searching female prisoners was the worst part of my job.  Fortunately, I no longer have to do that.

4. How do you measure contentment?
By the peace in my soul,  because there isn't always peace in my surroundings.  Which by the way, the peace only comes from Jesus.

5. Pickles-like or dislike? What is something you eat that requires a pickle? Dill, bread and butter, sweet gherkins...what's your favorite kind of pickle?
I like bread and butter pickles best.  This summer I found  sliced bread and butter pickles that fit perfectly on a hot dog bun and right now that's my favorite.

6. In your current house-town-state, what is it you like living close to?
My family.

7. What is one thing on your 'want-to-do' list before summer draws to an official close?
I want to get our November vacation booked.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I'm on Book 3 of the Harry Potter series.  I have to say, I'm rather surprised.  I'm enjoying them a lot better than I thought I would.

Amazing Airport Experience

I apologize for not being around much lately. Things have been busy.

Kelli went back to Florida on Friday. Her daddy took her to the airport. We were both supposed to, but plans change. haha  I just have to share with you what happened at the airport though.  As she was going through security, for some reason her carry-on luggage was flagged in the x-ray machine.  So of course, they had to open her suitcase.  What they found was her Bible.  They told her, for some reason, her Bible had looked like a sword on the x-ray.

As you may or may not know, the Bible is called the Sword of the Spirit.  She was so excited about this, that she ran to tell her dad and ended up having to go through security again.  haha  I just think that is the most awesome thing, that God allowed to happen to her.  To remind her that He is with her always in this last year of school and throughout her whole life.

Have a great day everyone!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Click the Hodgepodge button to playing along with Joyce.

1. What's your worst food memory? How about one of your best?
One of the worst was when I accidentally took a drink of curdled chocolate milk. Can I just say...NASTY!!!  One of the best is the first time I ever had prime rib...on a cruise ship about 30 years ago.  Yummy!

2. Do you appreciate people telling it like it is, or would you rather a speaker temper his/her words and maybe beat around the bush a little? How about when you're the one communicating...which type are you?
Telling it like it is, is good.  However, I'm not real good at doing that.  Depending on who I am talking too.

3. What's your favorite place to hang out?
Our house...I love being home. But as long as I'm with my husband I'm very happy wherever we may be.

4. When do you most feel like you're a slave to time?
Work.  37 years in one place is a really long time. Since I work for a police department I always joke and say I've spent more time behind those walls than most people get for murder.  haha

5. What was the last concert you attended? Who'd you go with? Was it any good?
Probably a Mark Lowry concert.  I went with my husband and yes his concerts are always good.  The first Monday of each month we go to  little restaurant nearby and listen to a favorite group of hours singing and playing bluegrass.  Does that count for a concert?

6. Reality TV...harmful or harmless? What's your guilty pleasure when it comes to reality TV?
The only one I watch regularly is Survivor!  Love it!  Is Survivor even considered a reality show.  If not, then I really don't watch any.  I have tried to watch Duck Dynasty a couple of times.  And while I appreciate their witness for the Lord, so far I just don't like the show.

7. What's something you think is overrated?
All the vampire and walking dead stuff that is out there.  Enough is enough...in my humble opinion.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I love this little girl.  Isn't she adorable. She sure has grown up a lot in the last 8 months, hasn't she.

This is from a couple weeks ago.

This is what she looked like when she came to live with us 8 months ago.
Have a great day everyone!  Thanks Joyce for another great Hodgepodge.

Fun Stuff

Saturday night my oldest daughter and I had a mother-daughter date.  We had dinner at Cracker Barrel and talked and talked.  We then went to the movies.  Just for fun we watched the new Disney movie, "Planes."  It was really cute.

Here we are at Cracker Barrel

1. Apparently today is International Homeless Animal Day. Have you ever adopted an animal friend for your household?
Yes, we have adopted 2 dogs from the shelter.  The one we have now came from a shelter and we love her.

Here's a picture from several years ago.  We don't even have the swing set any more.

2. How do you adjust to changes in your daily routine?
One step at a time.

3. Which social media platform do you like best? Which one do you like least?
I probably like blogging and FB the best.  I also like Twitter, but of the 3 it would be my least favorite.

4. How do you decide, 'what's for dinner?'
We just try to figure out what we are in the mood for.

Now, my question for you...
Do you watch Duck Dynasty and if yes, what do you like about it?    I've tried watching several different shows and I just can't figure out the draw to this show.  It just seems so silly.

Monday Quiz About Me

Acting Balanced

How to play:  Here are FOUR QUESTIONS that everyone can answer and then you have the option to add a fifth question of your own. Click the button above (after reading my answers) to join in at "Acting Balanced" to play along.

1. What is your favorite 'G Rated' activity that you like to share with your SO or BFF?
Just spending time being together is enough, but for a favorite activity it's probably exploring new places or trying new restaurants.

2. Do you buy summer clothes at the end of season clearance sales?
Sometimes, but not usually a lot.  Maybe one or two things.

3. August 13th is national left-handers day. How many left handed people do you know?
I really have no idea.  I know one of my best friends is left handed and she is very talented craft-wise.  I'd love to steal some of her talent.

4. When you go swimming do you: a) jump into the pool; b) gently move into the pool; or c) dive in?
Depends on my mood at the time.  When I was younger, I would dive in, because I loved diving. Now I start in slowly, but then usually jump the rest of the way in to get the shock of the cold over with.

My 5th Question for you to answer in the comments:  What are you reading right now?
I just started the Harry Potter series.  I've never read them before.  I have seen a few of the first movies.  Someone else was talking about them on their blog and made me want to try reading them.  I just completed #1 and am getting ready to start #2.

1. The first week of August is National Simplify Your Life Week...what's one thing you could do this week to qualify as a participant?
Retire - I'm certainly eligible however it won't be this week and probably won't be for another few years.  But that could definitely simplify my life.

2. It's also National Peach Month...peach pie, peach cobbler, or please pour me a Bellini? What's your peach pleasure?
Fresh peaches in my cereal.

3. Eleanor Roosevelt once wrote, "Do one thing every day that scares you." Agree or disagree...explain.
Maybe true but I don't want to live that way.

4. What's your favorite household chore? Yes-you have to name one.
I don't mind washing dishes.

5. Fodors recently listed (what they've dubbed) the ten most beautiful sunset spots in America. Click here to read more and see the pretty pictures, but this is their list:

Butterfly Beach in Santa Monica CA, Mount Haleakala in Maui HI, Old Fort Marcy Park in Santa Fe NM, Laguna Beach CA, Hopi Point in Grand Canyon AZ, Four Seasons in Miami FL, Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica CA, Gay Head in Martha's Vineyard MA, Ensign Peak in Salt Lake City UT, and Mallory Square in Key West Florida.

Have you seen the sun set from any of these spots? If you could choose to watch the sun set this weekend from one spot on the Fodors List, which would you choose? Where was the prettiest sunset you've ever seen?
No, I haven't seen a sunset at any of those places, but I'll choose the one in Hawaii!

How about this beautiful pink sunset sky from our neighborhood.

6. What's your favorite or most used app? If you don't use apps how about your favorite or most visited website?
Most visited website is my blog and then FB.  I don't have a smart phone yet, so I don't have too many apps.  Just a few on my Kindle.  I like Words With Friends pretty well.

7. We've recently passed the halfway mark for 2013...write a seven word sentence that sums up your year thus far.
Been good but I need a vacation.

Weekend Wrap-Up

It's been another good weekend.

Friday - Due to some unforeseen happenings hubby and I were late getting home on Friday evening. He got home before I did though. Bless his heart, he ordered in some supper for us and I didn't have to do any work when I got home.

Saturday - We got up early and went to take care of my sister's dog and then we went out to breakfast. Then we came home and just relaxed, reading and enjoying our day together. Hubby took me out to dinner at Outback for my early birthday dinner with just the two of us. Then we drove to Dayton and hung out at the airport until Kelli's plane got in (30 minutes late). It was fun catching up with her some on the way home.  Below are a couple of pictures from the upper level of the parking garage.  I thought the sky was so pretty, with the rays coming through the clouds.

Sunday - Sunday was my birthday. We went to church and then to lunch with hubby's parents and brother and his family. Both of my girls were there, so it was a really good time. It's been awhile since I've had both girls together at the table. I'm hoping before Kelli goes back that the four of us will be able to get together again. We're thinking maybe next Saturday. After church Sunday evening, we did some grocery shopping and came home and had some birthday cake. It was a pretty great birthday.

3 girls playing Barbies

You tell me who's having more fun, the big girls or the little one.

Hope they never outgrow this.
