Mom

Mom passed away on August 28th very early in the morning.  I've been wanting to write a blog post about Mom, but had no idea what I wanted to say.  I really still don't know.

Mom has always been so strong and was always entertaining people or doing something nice for people.  Mom and Dad's house was always the one family members came to when they were in from out of town on vacation.  Mom always fed everyone well when you came to their house.  She was an amazing cook (so was Dad).

When Mom and Dad married, she was only 17 and he was 22.  They both had the same birthday and they got married on their birthday.  This year on June 3rd, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary and their 82nd and 87th birthdays.  Mom would always joke that she married Dad to get off the farm and he said he married her because she knew how to do the farm work.  lol

Eventually, when I was a freshman in high school, they bought a small farm.  Dad was able to have a few cows and chickens and pigs and horses and sheep and turkeys, etc.  The one thing Mom was always responsible for when growing up was milking the cows with her older brother.  She never wanted to do that again.  Well, for about a year or so on that little farm, Dad had a milk cow.  Mom told him she, would take care of the milk, make butter or anything else, but she would never milk that cow, even if it's udders burst. And you know what, she never did!!  But she did all the rest without ever a complaint.

I have always known, no matter what, I could go to Mom and Dad with any problem.  They always listened and they always tried to give good advice.  I appreciate all the help they've given me and my family through all these years.

Here's a video of Mom through the years that my brother put together for her memorial service.

Mom, I miss you, but I know you have attained what the rest of us are working for.  Enjoy being with your Mom and Dad and with Larry and all the rest of your friends and loved ones that are there with you.  I'll see you soon!!  I love you!

  1. OH Cathy I am in tears over here as I know just how you are feeling. Mom has been gone a couple of years now and there are those moments still when it is overwhelming. I am soo sorry you have lost her for now, but the comfort that we have that we KNOW we will see them again, talk to them again, and spend our eternities with them is something we can cling to while we wait. I pray the Lord will comfort you for now, surround you with His peace, and all the memories that flood your heart will put a smile on your face. Blessings and hugs to you! Debbie

great video btw, I watched the whole thing. She lived a long and loved life it looks like.....

  7. Oh, I'm so sorry! My Mom passed away very suddenly from a massive stroke 6 years ago this Dec. 1st and it was so devastating to me. I remember an older woman saying to me at that time that I would get through it but I would never get over it, and she was exactly right. There is just no one like our Moms. My heart aches for you.
