Family

I'm going to attempt to participate in the 31 Day Writing Challenge using the Five Minute Friday Prompts.  The previous post was Thursday's Prompt which was "Calling" and this post is for today's prompt which is "Family". Let's see where this prompt will take me.

Family

Can I just say right at the beginning, I love my family! Both the family I grew up in and also the family hubby and I have together. I also love my hubby's family a lot too.

I grew up as the middle child in a family of 5 kids. I had an older brother and sister and I had a younger brother and sister. Being in the middle could sometimes be a pain. You see I thought I was too old to play with the little ones and the older ones thought I was too young to be with them. But at home it typically didn't matter, it was when they were with their friends that it really seemed to make a difference.

Mom and Dad were pretty strict raising us, but when they became grandparents, they were extremely less strict. They were always giving my girls treats and special things and letting them get away with things they never would have allowed us to get away with. When I'd say something to mom about it, she'd just say we were too hard on you guys. And I'd say, but mom, you must have done something right, because we all grew up to be fairly decent adults. But it didn't matter, nothing was too good for her grandkids. lol

Hubby and I are now empty-nesters and I have to say I'm really enjoying it. I know my girls are happy and out pursuing their lives, so it makes it easy for me to be content to just be back to hubby and I. I get to see our youngest quite often as she only lives about 30 minutes away. The oldest lives in Florida, so I see her a lot less, but texting and phone calls go along way to making that easier.

So you see, I have a great family and I'm so thankful for each and every member (even all the aunts and uncles and cousins, etc)

  3. Way to take on the 31 day challenge! My dad often says the "I know I was hard on you guys" line to us and now he's a soft-hearted grandpa to my two little boys :) Grandparenting must change a person!

You are blessed with a wonderful family! I'm your neighbor in the FMF party and it's nice to meet you :)
