1. Every January 1st since 1976 Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English. Words may be banished due to mis-use, over-use or just general uselessness and they receive over 1000 nominations. Here are the fourteen words/phrases they'd like to see banished in 2011-viral, epic, fail, wow factor, a-ha moment, back story, BFF, man up, refudiate, Mama Grizzlies, The American People, facebook/google when used as verbs, I'm just sayin', and Live life to the fullest.
What word or phrase would you like to see banished from our everyday vocabulary in 2011? You can choose one from the 'official list' or you can get creative and come up with your own.
Freakin'
2. Do you consider opportunity something that comes to you or something you create for yourself?
Both
3. Since we're all eating healthy this month, ahem, what's included in your favorite salad? Is there dressing?
Iceberg Lettuce, tomato, a few sunflower seeds and a small amount of shredded cheese and ranch dressing on the side.
4. The fourth Monday in January is said to be Blue Monday...aka the most depressing day of the year. The date was calculated using many factors including weather, debt level, time since Christmas, time since we've failed at our new year resolutions, low motivation and feeling a need to take action. Do you get the blues this time of year and if so what is something you do to lift your spirits?
I don't think I do, but you'd probably have to ask my family or my co-workers.
5. Do you wear a watch? Any other everyday jewelry essentials?
I do not wear a watch, but I always wear my engagement and wedding rings.
6. What is something useful you learned in high school?
Typing. I have probably used that skill more than any other.
7. Do you use an accountant when completing and filing your income tax returns or do you attempt to muddle through all by yourself?
Definitely an accountant.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
I've heard people talking about picking a word for 2011 (on KLOVE they've been talking about it this past week) and I decided my word for 2011 is "TRUST". I'll be posting verses about trust from time to time on my left sidebar. When things get tough in life, it always seems to come back to "Do I trust Him or not?" Yes, I do. "Do I trust Him to have my best interests at heart?" Yes, I do. I know sometimes what is in my best interest according to Him is not always what I think it should be, but I'm learning to trust Him even when I don't understand. I hope you are too.
I HATE the word freakin! I definitely think it should be banned from the English language! : )
ReplyDeleteI agree on #2. I was hoping that I wouldn't be the only one to give that answer. ;-)
ReplyDeleteDitto on #6. I'm well known among family, friends and co-workers for being such a fast typist ... at work, when they hear someone click-clacking away at a high rate of speed on the computer, they know it's me. ;-) Typing seemed a waste at the time, but it's turned out to be valuable with all the time we spend on computers (of course, back in the mid-60's, we didn't know that! ha!).
Have a great day!
I agree also on #2. If we only take the time to look. So glad I stopped by today. What fun!
ReplyDeleteAhh I forgot about typing...a completely useful skill and we didn't even know we'd spend half of our adult lives on a 'keyboard' : ) I loved typing...I think it's because I'm competitve and I remember doing drills every day.
ReplyDeleteI completely forgot about learning how to type in college! That's a good one!
ReplyDeleteI'm really surprised at the amount of people who don't wear a watch.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what I'd do without mine.
Love your list, Cathy. And don't wear a watch either. I check the time on my computer or cell phone instead.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you on #8! I believe that He is calling us to trust Him through it ALL!
Blessings to you today!
HE IS FAITHFUL!
Hugs!
Jackie
Enjoyed all your answers! I am with you on the freakin! Typing - I forgot about it, probably the most used skill we learned! Good answer! And I love your thoughts on trust! It is hard to trust when we do not understand, but how blessed we are when we do!
ReplyDeleteuntil next time... nel
I didn't think of "freakin'" but you're right, I detest that word.
ReplyDeleteI love your word for the year. You are right, it all comes down to, do I trust Him?
I don't think any words should be banished. Well, except for the swear words...
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for stopping by my blog and for taking the time to leave me a comment. I am so excited that you have also decided to join in on our "letter writing" project this year. We can all help to hold each other accountable! ( :
ReplyDeleteThanks again for visiting me and I hope you'll stop back by again soon!

Hi Cathy!
ReplyDeleteOh I wish they would teach typing again! So many younger people don't know how to type! But oh can they text fast! LOL
I too love sunflower seeds on my salads... and feta cheese. My daughter, Amanda, makes the best salads and posted about her salad this week. Her recipe includes avocados ... I enjoy salad anytime someone else makes one for me :o)
wishing you a wonderful weekend!
~Maria
I think I use that word, I promise not to use it around you! Your salad sounds delicious, I love ranch. I had a Cobb salad today with ranch. We all get a little down after the holidays, what else is new. I like a watch when I leave the house. I forgot about typing, I did learn that in HS and I'm still really good at it. Trust is a good one, I picked Simplify and I think I should put it on my sidebar. I'm going to be a copycat!
ReplyDeleteTyping - wow. I never that it would come in handy when I had to learn it at school. Boy was I wrong!
