Thankful Thursday

It's time for Thankful Thursday.  Here are some things I'm thankful for today.

**I've been walking each day at least a mile and for at least 30 minutes.  It makes me happy, first because I enjoy the time outside early, being with the dog and talking with God sometimes and second I enjoy seeing all the flowers and birds and listening to the birds sing.  I sometimes think if the earth and all creation is this beautiful, then what in the world will Heaven be like.  I don't think we can even imagine and that anything we do think, probably sells it short.  It's going to be so amazing to be there.

I started this post this morning and then had to stop because we went to lunch with my mother-in-law and my sister and her husband.  We went to a place called Rod's Capricorn Inn and they have the best cheeseburgers and fries, among other things.  I'm so thankful to have been able to spend time with them and also to take a good drive out in the country.

Tracy heard there is a covered bridge in that area, so we went in search of it.  It's no longer over the road, but it is beautiful and I'm so glad we went.  Below are a couple of pictures.

Stopped at my sister's yesterday and she showed me this nest in her hanging basket of flowers on the front porch.  I'm so thankful for all the birds I've been seeing and hearing.

I'm thankful for beautiful skies too.  Our weather has been very nice this week, although the heat is coming back now.  Below are some photos of the sky on Tuesday morning when we were walking.

God is so good and I am just so thankful to be His child.  I hope you are too.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great day!

Tuesday 4

Looking back...

Hello friends and once again welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.   I am so happy to have people joining in and making this so much fun.

I am listening to a nostalgic music channel right now with songs of the 40's  and it  made me think that perhaps we could discuss some
nostalgia here.  I hope you will enjoy thinking about these questions this week. Annie

Click here if you'd like to link up.

1. What music were your parents listening to when you were a kid?  Does that music bring back memories for you? I really don't recall them listening to a lot of music, but they did take us to several concerts of the southern Gospel Quartet Groups back in the day.  And still to this day that is my favorite kind of music, although I love many others too.  Mom and Dad actually sang in a quartet at our church and also traveled a bit and sang.  As an adult mom took lessons and learned to play the guitar.  In my early 20's I actually sang in a quartet too with my brother and 2 cousins.  So many fun memories.

2. What was your favorite meal and beverage as a teenager? Chicken and dumplings has always been a favorite and probably Pepsi was the favorite drink.  Is it still or have things changed for you?  I drink Diet Coke now and yes chicken and dumplings are still a favorite, but I may like Mexican style food even more.

3. As a teen did you live in a city, country, small town?  We moved a lot when I was younger.  Always in the same county.  Mom and Dad remodeled homes all the time.  They were in to flipping houses before flipping houses was a thing.  We lived in some of those houses and some they just fixed up and sold.  Dad also built homes for us.  But when he bought the small farm when I was a freshman in high school, they stayed there for like 19 years.  So as a teenager I mostly lived on the farm in the country and I loved it.   What was it like for you there. At first I shared a room with my two sisters and then dad built on and I shared a room with just one sister and the oldest got to have here own room.  Tell us about your hometown please? It's a fairly small city, although there has been a lot of expansion in the 45 years I worked for their Police Department.  It's the home of the Golden Lamb which opened in 1803 and has been continuously running ever since.  Many presidents and other famous people have stayed there or at least eaten there.

This is a picture of the Golden Lamb
dressed up for Christmas

One of my favorite places is our library

The clock tower on the city building.  The city
building used to be a theater and I remember
going and watching Disney movies there as a child.

The white building on the left is the local bank
where I have done my banking since I was a
teenager.  In fact, my sister worked there 40 some
years and my brother worked there probably 20 or so.

These last few show just a bit of Broadway
during the Memorial Day Parade

4. Would you like to live in your hometown today? Yes. Why or why not? In fact, I live just about a mile north of that town. And have always lived within a 20-30 mile radius of the city.  But some day I think I'd like to sell our home and downsize to a condo within the city limits.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great day.

Bits of This and That

Happy Monday morning!  I'm in my office at Church and it's a beautiful day outside.  Lucy and I took an early morning walk again and it was 58 degrees out and the skies were beautiful.  These morning walks I have been taking have been so good for Luci and me.  It kinda just jumpstarts my day.

Blue skies and wispy clouds are a favorite.

I love this bunny.  He was watching us, but
actually stayed in place and let me take
a couple pictures.

We were blessed with a very nice weekend.  It was a little hotter than I like, but we just stayed in the AC as much as we could.

We went to lunch with his mom and then for a little shopping on Friday.  Then on Saturday hubby and I grabbed lunch and then came home and did some laundry and some reading and TV at home.

On Sunday we had the morning and evening services.  I've posted the sermon below from Sunday morning and then Sunday evening we had a hymn sing, singing tons of songs from the hymnal of the Church of God.  There is such a rich heritage in these hymns.  We had a bunch of visitors from another church that doesn't have evening services on Sundays any more.  They added such a rich tone of voices and it was absolutely so fun and wonderful!

So, it was mostly a very relaxing weekend with a lot of peace and joy!

Thank you for visiting and I hope you had a wonderful weekend.  Tell me something you enjoyed over the weekend.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Something you learned from your father? I think he was influential in teaching me to love Southern Gospel Music. And really most of what I learned from him was just watching him in his daily life.  I am so thankful for him,
2. Do you like onions? Raw or cooked? How about onion rings? What's something you love to eat that calls for onions? I like my onions cooked and I love onion rings.  I like a Philly Cheesesteak with onions and peppers and also an Italian Sausage sandwich with peppers and onions.
3. It's officially summer (in the Northern hemisphere)...your favorite and least favorite things about the season? I enjoy the longer hours of light and I dislike the heat.
4. When you think about the summers of your childhood what are two or three things that come to mind? Swimming, bike riding, and mom taking us to the Library and getting to pick out books to read.
5. A hot mess, the heat of the moment, beat the heat, if you can't stand the heat, catch heat, in a dead heat...choose a 'hot 'phrase and tell us how it applies to your life right now. A hot mess would describe the room I'm wanting to make my craft room.  There is too much furniture in there which makes it hard for me to organize and set it up the way I want.  It's time to quit putting it off and start getting rid of some of that stuff.  Currently though hubby and I are working on the closets and getting rid of stuff and then on to my craft room and his den.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great day.

Tuesday 4

 Night Night!

Here we go with this week's questions from Annie in memory of Toni Taddeo.    I hope you enjoy them.  Link here if you would like to participate too.

1. Do you have a set bedtime that you stick to?  We usually start getting ready for bed around 10:00pm or so with the hopes of actually being ready to sleep by 11:00-11:30pm.

2. What kind of sleep attire do you prefer and why is that? I love big t-shirts or a knit gown because they are so comfy.

3. Do you have a night time routine  before bed?   Wash.. brush teeth.. snack? Typically we have a snack around 8:00p and watch a couple TV Shows and then prepare for bed and then read a book or scan social media for a bit oh and, of course, Lucy needs to go out for the last time of the day.

4. Quilts? Coverlet? Fluffy comforters? Woolen blankets? What do you need to sleep comfortably?  What I need most is my fan blowing and I have a fairly light blanket and also my Cpap Machine (which I don't really like to sleep with, but it does help me to have a much better night's sleep.  Fewer times waking throughout the night.)

Bits of This and That

Took a walk this morning and saw this over top of our subdivision

Beautiful morning

Mom or dad one feeding the babies

I finally got a decent picture of mom.  Both of these pictures
were taken Sunday afternoon.  She is such a tiny little thing.

Stopped at Subway after church to pick up a sandwich
and these were flying above.  Not the greatest pictures.

Hopefully we'll be seeing more of these.  I hadn't
seen hardly any this year and then these 2 on Sunday
night and the one above on Monday morning.
Typically we see a lot of hot air balloons in the summer.

We really enjoyed our weekend.   Saturday hubby and I went out to lunch and I ran in the grocery and picked up a few items and then was stopped and got a Starbucks for the drive home.
I tried a new flavor and it was delicious!

I know this post is a jumble and not actually in the order things happened, but that's life!  lol

Below is a video of hubby's sermon on Sunday morning.  Another in the Job series.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Friday Photos

I went out with Lucy for our walk this morning around 6:30 and it was 75 degrees and 94% humidity.  So needless to say, we kept a slow pace but did get our mile in and closed the exercise ring on my Apple watch for the day.  We usually walk a little farther and a little quicker, but in the heat we take it easier.  Anyway, I'm glad I got it done before it gets really hot today.

While we were out I took a few pictures to share with you.  We have some really pretty flowers in our neighborhood and I took a couple pictures of Lucy too.

I think these are the most beautiful flowers
in the neighborhood this year.  That orange is just
 so vibrant!

Monday evening we had storms and there are several
big limbs broken out of the trees like this.
I don't believe there was any severe damage in
our neighborhood but I know some in our area lost electric
for several days. We were blessed and
ours only flickered a couple of times.

They grow these every year on their mailbox.
And I get a picture every year too.  lol

At least she looked back at me for a second
so I could take here picture.

Someone does not like getting her picture taken.

Loved seeing the moon still out in the blue sky.

Well, I'm about cooled off now, so I probably need to get up and get busy soon.  Thanks for visiting.

Thankful Thursday

Family - I'm so thankful for my family.  Yesterday 7 of us cousins got together again for lunch and lots of talking.  Restaurant was nice and the food was great, but being together was the best.  One of the cousins was visiting her sister from Florida and was so good to see her.  It's been about 3 years since I had seen her,

This is the General Denver Hotel in Wilmington

This was the first time most of us had been here.

Family is the best

I'm so thankful that this is true,

Thanks for visiting. Link here or here if you want to participate.  You can never go wrong when thanking the Lord.

Of the attractions listed which would be tops on your list? The Albuquerque International Balloon Festival.

Tuesday 4

♬ ♫ Summertime and the Living is Easy. ♩ ♪

Hey.. you're back!  Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 where we just want you to meet new folks and get to know the ones you already know a bit better. Besides, it gives you something to blog about too.  Link here to join in.

This week let's talk about Summertime.

1. What gave you the most fun in summer as a kid or as an adult? Some of the most fun to me was when we had a pool in the backyard and some of the cousins would come and swim with us.

2. Does summer heat get to you? How do you cope? Yes, it does.  I cope by staying inside if it's really hot and muggy, fans help me a lot too.

3.  Do you have summertime foods and drinks you really enjoy eating?   Does your menu change in summer? I love watermelon and tomatoes and fresh garden items for dinner.  We typically do not eat as heavy in the summer heat.  Less pastas (unless cold pasta salads) and less soups and chilis, etc.  Lighter fare and grilled items and veggies are wonderful!  In fact, tonight we're having green beans with red potatoes in them and corn on the cob!  Yum!!

4. Do you enjoy sitting outside or on the porch in summertime?  How about some photos of where you enjoy being in summer.  If it's not too hot I enjoy sitting on the porch and watching the hummingbirds and other birds.  I'm enjoying getting up early 6-7am and taking my walk before the heat sets in for the day.  That's been working really well for me so far.

We have 2 rockers on this porch and if
I'm outside, this is where I sit.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great day.
