Thanksgiving Day

For the past 10 years or so our church has had a Community Thanksgiving Dinner for anyone who doesn't have somewhere to go on Thanksgiving. We also deliver dinners to shut-ins and offer dinners to any law enforcement personnel working on Thanksgiving. We serve the traditional Thanksgiving Dinner of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, green beans, applesauce, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. This year they served somewhere between 330-350 dinners on Thanksgiving with about 40 law enforcement personnel being served. We are a small congregation of about 35-40 people and this is a ministry that we feel is very important to our town. My husband and oldest daughter went down early and helped with some of the deliveries and stuff like that.

We went to my sister's house for Thanksgiving this year. All of my brothers and sisters and their families were there and so were my mom and dad. We had a great time. The food was awesome and the company was even better.

Then about 2:30 or so, Tracy and I and the girls headed down to the church for the clean-up duty after the dinner. By this time the ones that have been serving are tired and more than ready to let us come in and do our part. But not only did we go, my 2 nephews and my sister's granddaughter, my dad and my younger sister all went too. With all this help, plus one or two others who stayed to help, we had it cleaned up in no time. I just love it when everyone pitches in like that.

We then went back to my sisters for some more family time and some dessert too.

I asked my younger sister if she would take a few pictures of Tracy and I and the girls hoping to maybe get something we could use on a Christmas card. We've never done a photo Christmas card (mainly because Tracy and I try to avoid the front side of the camera- I much prefer being behind the camera). She agreed, so we headed outside and tried to look like we weren't freezing and she took a few pictures. My sister is really a very good photographer, but did not have her camera that day, so she used mine. She didn't know anything about the settings on my camera, so she wasn't so pleased with the pictures. But I don't know anything about f-stops and white balances and stuff, so I think they are fine. Anyway, the first picture is the one we chose and had put on our Christmas card.

Thank you Lord, for such a wonderful family and church family. You are so awesome and greatly to be praised.

Christmas Bell

My daughter had an assignment for her art class to paint a white sleigh bell with a winter scene. This bell will then be taken to one of our shops downtown and put on display for a week. Anyone can stop in and vote for their favorite bell. On next Saturday the bells will be auctioned off and the money is to be donated to benefit Bridge Riding for the Disabled. So if you plan to be in our area this week and want to vote, send me an e-mail and I'll tell you which store and where they will be. And if you want a beautiful bell, be there next Saturday for our Christmas Festival and place a bid in the Silent Auction.

Now, let me show you some pictures of my daughter's bell. She painted several scenes from "Narnia" and I think it's beautiful!!!

Mr. Fix-it

I am married to the most wonderful man in the world. He can preach a sermon, teach a Bible Study, play the piano and the bass guitar and he has the voice of an angel. You don't believe me, just ask anyone in our congregation. They'll tell you the same. However, he is not a fix-it type person. I grew up with a daddy who can build furniture and houses and can fix almost anything (except a car). So when hubby couldn't do that, it took a little getting used to.

So if you want a wedding performed, or a funeral preached, or a beautiful song sung, call my hubby. But if you want something fixed, we call my daddy. That is, until tonight. Tonight, my hubby decided to fix our washer. The top half of the agitator had quit working. He got online and read about it and then ordered the parts and they came in to day. And people, I want you to know something. He fixed it! And it only took about 15 minutes. There were no injuries and nothing got broken and no yellin' or cussin' (mind you he's never cussed before so I really wasn't expecting him to tonight either) or nothing.

He just followed the directions....hard to believe a man actually read and followed directions, isn't it? But I just did a big load of towels and it worked wonderfully well.

So now, if you want a revival preached or a Sunday school lesson taught or a washer fixed, just call my hubby! Mr. Fix-it!

Thanksgiving Poem

I received this poem in an e-mail from a friend and I thought I'd share it with you.

T' WAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING,
BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP.
I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS,
I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.

THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED -
THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE,
BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION
WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION,
THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.
SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,
AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.
GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,
PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,
'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.
I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY,
WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.
BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES....
HAPPY EATING TO ALL - PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY,
MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.
MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP.
MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS.
MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,
MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

Come for a walk with me down Memory Lane!
And if you have a "Memory Lane" post, head on over to Scottsville to join in on the fun!

Kerri is on the left. This is her first band concert playing the flute in December 2005. She would've been 11 years old. She did so good, unfortunately after a year and a half, she decided not to play any more.

More Balloons

Tracy and I were taking kerri to her youth group meeting Sunday afternoon and this is what we saw on the way.  There were 3 hot air balloons and this one was coming down.  I was driving, so these pictures were taken by Tracy and Kerri.  Here are just a couple of what they took.

Everything!

Why do we always keep searching and searching for something else. Why are we never just satisfied with Jesus? My girls participated in a drama a couple of weeks ago portraying this searching. Here's a video of that drama. I think it's very powerful.

I need to remember, Jesus is enough! He is all I need.

Magical Disney Sunday

Fairy Footprints

It's Magical Disney Sunday with Heidi from Fairy Footprints In The Sand. I just found this and decided to play along. Anyone who's visited my blog very long, probably knows I love Disney and I can't resist a chance to show some Disney pictures.

I love Cinderella's Castle. It just makes me happy!

This is one of my favorite rides at the Magic Kingdom.

No matter which of the 4 parks I go to first, I don't really feel like I'm there until I see this.

Tower of Terror scares me to death, but I keep riding it for some reason.

My favorite Disney fans. I think they love all things Disney about as much as I do.
