Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What's something you're dealing with that might be described as tricky?
Walking the line between being glad to have the young lady stay with us while she needs help and encouraging her to step out on her own without it seeming that we are trying to get rid of her.  She is ready and should have her apartment soon.  We are happy for her and for us too.  We've loved having her but are ready to have our house back.  See what I mean.  No matter how I say it, it doesn't come out right.  I'll just say...we are so happy to have been able to help and we are so happy she is getting on her feet and will be starting her new life with her daughter.  :)

2. What's your treat of choice?
Chocolate...cookie, ice cream or cake

3. Did you/will you carve a jack-o-lantern this month? Which real (living or dead) or fictional 'Jack' would you most like to meet in person? Why?
No, we did not/will not be carving a jack-o-lantern.  I can't think of a Jack that I'd want to meet.  Maybe Jacqueline Kennedy.  She seemed to be an interesting person.  I know my daughter would say Capt. Jack Sparrow (well if Johnny Depp was representing him).  haha

Kelli...This is just for you!  (picture from internet)

4. In your opinion, what's the grossest sounding word in the English language?
Really Joyce...we are going to go there?!?  lol  Vomit is one of the grossest words to me. Makes me want to do it when I hear it.  Oh yay and I'm eating lunch as I'm working on this post.  lol

5. When did your heart last skip a beat?
Probably last Friday when hubby called me and said the vet had just called and Lily had just passed away.

6. Monster Mash by Bobby 'Boris' Picket, Michael Jackson's Thriller, Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon, or Ray Parker Jr.'s Ghostbusters...your favorite 'scary' tune?
Michael Jackson's Thriller

7. It was a dark and stormy night when______________________________.
Can't think of a thing right now..

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I can't wait for the new moving "Saving Mr. Banks" comes out in December.  Are you planning to see it?

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Hey, why don't you click the button above and join in with Joyce and the rest of us for some Hodgepodge fun.

1. When it comes to good manners, what two top your list of most important?
You can never go wrong with please and thank you.

2. Let's open a proverbial can of worms...Common Core. Are you familiar with the term (talking education reform in the USA)? If so, care to share your thoughts? In your opinion, what is one of the biggest issues schools (in your home country) face today?
No discipline, no Bible and no prayer.  Not necessarily in that order.

3. Name a celebrity whose fashion sense you admire and share why.
Carol Burnett
Photo from the internet
I mean, tell me, who else could pull off this great "Gone With the Wind" outfit.
Photo from the internet
But really...she is one really classy looking lady, in my book.  Plus she is just flat hilarious!!

Here's a short video clip just for fun.

4. How are you affected by the changing seasons?
Well, I'm cold in the winter, warm in the spring, hot in the summer and cool in the fall.  Isn't everyone?

5. Scariest book you've ever read?
"Carrie" by Stephen King

6. What time of day are you most hungry? What's your go-to snack?
Just before dinner...and my go to snack right now is nuts or a cheese stick. (I'm trying to eat low carb).

7. Do you lean more towards being too needy or too independent? Which do you find harder to deal with in others?
Depends on the situation...but I'm probably more needy than independent.  It's a little harder for me to deal with the too needy person.  Don't they say what irritates you in other people are the things you do yourself.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Lord willing, hubby and I will be going to Myrtle Beach in less than 2 weeks.  We're looking forward to the chance to rest and relax together and to seeing this every morning.

Lily

Lily is not feeling well.  She was fine Saturday, but Sunday I could tell something was just not quite right.  Sunday after church hubby and I got Taco Salads for supper and brought Lily a taco.  She really wasn't interested and that is extremely unusual.  Then she decided she would try to eat and on the way to the bowl, she just fell over.  Scared me to death and I hollered for Tracy.  He came in and she fell again.

So we were trying to decide what we should do.  We called our vets office (knowing hey weren't in) and they gave numbers to 2 different 24-hour pet clinics.  We prayed and then decided we would take her.  However, when we took her outside, she seemed to be better and even trotted a little.  So we decided we would wait until morning and then call our vet first thing.  The vet said we made the right decision.  Thank you God for the wisdom you gave us.

I called and they said bring her in at 9 and they would check her out.  We did and he knew as soon as he looked at the way she was standing that she had a disc messed up in her back.  We figured out what probably happened to cause the disc issue.  On Saturday I put her outside (we don't have a fenced yard so she goes out on a lead).  There was a squirrel in the yard and she took off chasing after it and forgot to stop before he lead line ended.  She hit the end pretty hard and it jerked her a lot.  When she was a lot younger she used to do this and I've actually seen it flip her over when she hit the end.  Fortunately, she didn't do it that hard this time.

He kept her for the day and ran some tests, and gave her several injections and we picked her up around 5:30.She's feeling better tonight, but is still sore and moving slow. He said it's just like us when he jerk our back out.  We may not hurt that bad the first day, but by the 2nd and 3rd days we hurting really bad.  Anyway, she seems some better and at least she's eating good tonight.  We're hoping she'll be a lot better in a couple of days.

Here's a picture of her laying around in our bedroom tonight.  After taking this picture and playing around with some online editing tools, I sat on the floor with her and brushed her hair.  She seemed to enjoy the extra attention for awhile.

I'm so glad God doesn't seem to think it's silly that we prayed for our dog and that we asked for wisdom to know what to do to help her.  I believe he answered our prayers and that is why she is feeling better tonight.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What was your biggest worry five years ago? Is it still a worry?
Getting my girls through school.  Still a bit of a worry, but not as much.  One is a senior in college and the other is a senior in high school.

2. Yesterday (October 15th) was National Grouch Day...what makes you grouchy? What cheers you up when you're feeling grouchy?
National Grouch Day?  Never heard of that one.  When I get frustrated with something that's what makes me grouchy. Going to my room and taking a nap or reading a book can help calm me down which will help cheer me up.  Something chocolate helps too!  lol

3. In one word, how does it feel to be photographed?
Yucky

4. Besides your parents, who would you say had the greatest influence on you in choosing your life path? Explain.
I'm not so sure I did choose my life path.  I kinda think it chose me.

5. The crisp days of autumn are here ...what's something you like to eat, but only if it's crisp?
Potato Chips

6. What's the most useless object you own?
My food processor because I never use it.

7. Share a favorite fall memory.
I remember the first time I got to go Trick or Treating with my oldest daughter (she wasn't mine yet).  She was so adorable and she must have fallen at least 3 or 4 times while we were out and I just totally fell in love with her that night.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
It feels good to be back blogging and reading your blogs.  For the past month or so, I just haven't had the heart to blog.  I sure did miss all of you.

Life...

...is not easy.
...is good.
...is hard.
...is busy.
...is scary.
...is what God has given us to live until He takes us home to be with Him.

The past few weeks have been pretty hard in our life. For awhile we thought we were possibly going to lose my brother. But God has richly blessed and it appears the chemo is working. He is getting stronger and has to do more chemo, but the doctor believes they can control (not cure), but control his cancer. We are praising and thanking God for that.

My sister is staying in his house right now as she is trying to recuperate from her sickness.  We are still praying God will touch her eyes and bring her sight back to where she can drive and work again.

So while, all this is not over, I know God has given them both strength to walk this road and he has done the same for the rest of the family.  Mom and Dad are doing pretty well and the rest of us "kids" are being blessed by God with strength and courage to help in any way we can.

While I do not like this road that God has us on, I do believe it is drawing us closer to each other and to God, and also making each one of us stronger in our faith.  God has richly blessed my family and I know He will continue to do so in the ways that He sees best.  I try to always remember Isaiah 55:8
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,”declares the Lord

I thank each one of you for your prayers and by God's grace I will be back here blogging a little more regularly.  I have really missed you all.
