If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

I Get Around

From Sam: "Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here are today's questions!"

Saturday 9: I Get Around (1964)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) 60 years ago this month, the Beach Boys were singing that having a cool car and helped them get girls. In your teen years, what did you drive? I got my driver's license when I was 17 and at that time if I drove at all, it was the family car which was a light yellow Buick LeSabre.  I think I was probably 18-19 when I bought my first car and it was a maroon 1967 Ford Fairlane with a hole in the floorboard. lol

2) They are searching for a new place to party. This weekend, will you be visiting any bars, theaters or restaurants? We're going to lunch at Fazoli's today.

3) When Brian Wilson was forming the group, he turned to his friend Al Jardine, his brothers Dennis and Carl, and his cousin, Mike Love. Though most of their songs were about cars, beaches and surf, only one of those founding members was a surfer: Dennis. Do you enjoy the beach? Are you good on a surfboard? I enjoy the beach.  I do not surf, however I used to body surf.  Now, I just like to walk on the beach and look for sharks' teeth and shells.

4) They were originally from Hawthorne, California. Hawthorne was the early childhood home of Marilyn Monroe. Since Marilyn was one of the most iconic women of the 20th century, we know you recognize her image. Have you seen any of her movies? I have seen some, but it's been a long time.

5) "I Get Around" is included in Endless Summer, the greatest hits compilation released in 1974. Influential music critic Robert Christgau said Endless Summer should be part of any basic record library. What's one of your favorite CDs? I don't know what would be a favorite CD, but my favorite music is southern gospel. Always has been and I suppose always will be.

Let's look at the summer of 1964.

6) The #1 film of the summer of 1964 was Walt Disney's Mary Poppins. Have you seen it? Yes, I have seen it and also I've read several of P.L. Travers' Mary Poppins books.

7) President Lyndon Johnson accepted the Democratic party's nomination at the August 1964 convention in Atlantic City, NJ. Atlantic City is known for casinos and gambling. Do you often play the lottery, bingo, or any other game of chance? No, I don't.

8) Billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was still a baby in the summer of 1964. What was in your most recent Amazon delivery? My dog mom hat.

9) Another little one born in '64 is Mariska Hargitay. The star of Law & Order: SVU is the daughter of a well-known movie star. Without looking it up, do you know who her mother was? No, I do not know (until I read Terri's answers)

Saturday 9

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here

1) In this song, Dean Martin sings that the streets are white with snow. Do you anticipate a White Christmas this year? It's always a possibility. I haven't heard the forecast though.

2) He tells us he's done plenty of window shopping this season. Do you find you're influenced by a retailer's window dressing and store decor? Are you more motivated by price? Or do you do most of your shopping online, making holiday decorations irrelevant? This year was all online shopping and it's done.

3) Dean was born in Steubenville, OH. Though he rarely returned to his hometown, it was in his thoughts during the holidays. Every Christmas he made like Santa and sent toys to hospitalized children in the Steubenville area. Are there toys on your shopping list this year? No toys this year.

4) He had fast hands when it came to cards and before he was famous he worked as a dealer in Atlantic City. When you play cards, what's your favorite game? Uno

5) Dean Martin was an avid reader ... of comic books. Especially in bed when he was on the road and couldn't sleep. Much as he enjoyed comic books, he was embarrassed by them. What do you do when you can't sleep? I read.  Sometimes I scroll social media, but then I can't seem to go back to sleep.  So it's better for me to read until I get sleepy.

Now let's have a few holiday-specific questions:

6) Every year, the United States Postal Service introduces special holiday stamps. Do you purchase them? I have before but mostly I just use regular stamps.

7) Do you have a funny/ugly holiday sweater? No, not any more. Wait a minute.  I do have a sweatshirt that I got when my sister passed away a couple months ago.

8) Do you wrap your presents or use gift bags? Both, but this year the girls are doing the wrapping for me.

9) We're doing Christmas karaoke! What holiday or winter-themed song will you perform? Silver Bells

Thanks for visiting.

Saturday 9

Wildest Dreams

You can link up here if you'd like to participate.

Saturday 9: Wildest Dreams (2014)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, a tall, handsome man asks Taylor Swift to drive away with him to escape the crowds. Where were you headed when you most recently got behind the wheel?  It was last evening and we were headed out to view some Christmas lights after picking up hubby's mom to go with us.

2) She sings about memories of a romance that just "follow you around." Is anyone special on your mind this morning? (It doesn't have to be a romantic partner.) My hubby who is just in the other room and I think he is definitely feeling better today.

3) The lyrics reference sunset. Now that it gets dark earlier, do you find yourself watching the sun set more often?  Only if I happen to be out with the dog.  I watched lots of sunset and sunrise skies last month when on vacation.

4) The video for this song takes place on a movie set. Swift said it was inspired by tales of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton embarking on a love affair while co-starring in Cleopatra. Elizabeth and Richard fell in love in Rome, while this video was filmed outside of Gaborone, Botswana. In your wildest dreams, which of these exotic locales would you rather visit: Rome or Gaborone?  Honestly, I have no desire to go to either, but there are lots of places in the USA I'd like to visit.

5) In homage to Elizabeth Taylor, Swift went from blonde to brunette for the video. Do you have an appointment with a stylist between now and year end?  No, I don't make appointments any more.  I just go to our local Great Clips for my haircuts.

6) Both Taylors (Swift and Elizabeth) often wore the color purple. What color dominates your wardrobe? Blue

7) In the video, Taylor Swift's leading man is Scott Eastwood, son of Clint. Though not as famous as his dad, Scott works steadily and has more than 30 TV and movie credits. Can you think of another second-generation performer who followed his or her parent into show business? I think of Carrie Fisher whose mom was Debbie Reynolds.

8) In 2014, when "Wildest Dreams" topped the charts, Paul McCartney had to reschedule tour dates so he could recover from a bout with the flu. How are you feeling this morning? Any coughs, sneezes, sniffles? Nope, I feel pretty good this morning.

9) Random question: How many different zip codes have you lived in throughout your life?  I've lived in 4 different zip codes and all were in less than a 20 mile residence from where I live now.

Thanks Sam.  These questions were fun this week.

Saturday 9 - My Funny Valentine

Saturday 9: My Funny Valentine (1953)

Link up here.

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Frank sings that his lover is his favorite work of art. Tell us about a piece of artwork you can see from where you're sitting now. (Yes, that crayon drawing by your 5-year-old nephew counts.)  This is a drawing my sister did many years ago.  It's one of my favorites.

I have several other paintings of hers and I also have some of my daughter's paintings, but this was the closest to me when I first read this question.

2) He asks her to not change her hair. When will you next find yourself in the stylist's chair? Hopefully in the next week or two as I really need a trim.

3) Sinatra is often photographed in hats because he began losing his hair while in his 30s. He wore "a rug" for TV, concert and film appearances but really didn't like it, considering the toupee merely part of his work attire. What do you wear when you wish to appear professional? Dress pants and some type of nice top.

4) Sinatra is best known for his singing and won an Oscar for his acting. But not many people know he liked to paint until the widow sold his paintings at auction. Do you have a secret talent? Nothing secret.

5) As a kid, he was a paperboy in his hometown of Hoboken, NJ.  Tell us about one of your early jobs. My first job was in a gift shop at the amusement park, Kings Island.

This is the last Saturday  9 before Valentine's Day and so this morning we shall focus on the upcoming holiday.

6) The holiday is also known as The Feast of St. Valentine. Do you have a special meal planned for Tuesday? Nope.

7) The phrase "wear your heart on your sleeve" began in medieval times. On Valentine's Day, men would celebrate the holiday by displaying their lady love's name on their sleeves. If you were going to adopt this custom, whose name would you wear? Tracy, my husband.

8) Women buy and send more Valentines than men do. Who received the last greeting card you sent? It would have been all the ones I sent Christmas cards to.

9) Sweethearts, those candy hearts with sayings like "BE MINE" stamped on them, began as throat lozenges. Are you fan of these little candies? Not to eat.  But I think they are fun to read and give.  In fact, I was looking for them in the store yesterday as I was thinking of giving a small box to each person at church tomorrow.  Couldn't find them.  May have to look somewhere else today.

Well that's it for today.  Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a good day.

Saturday 9 - Beautiful

Saturday 9: Beautiful (2005)

Unfamiliar with this week's
tune? Hear it here.

Link up here.

1) In this song, Moby sings about a self-involved couple who believes others are fascinated by their glamorous lives. Tell us about the most interesting couple you know. If you take the time to learn people, almost everyone is interesting in some way or another.

2) This song was inspired by the proliferation of reality shows, where celebrities share their lives on camera. Does the idea of becoming rich and famous in exchange for letting a film crew into your home appeal to you? No, not at all.

3) "Beautiful" appears in the soundtrack of the movie The Devil Wears Prada, starring Meryl Streep. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance, which is no surprise because she has more Oscar nominations than any other actor or actress. Do you have a favorite Meryl Streep movie? The first one I ever saw, Kramer vs Kramer.

4) Moby has openly discussed how Christ has influenced his life and art. Do you consider yourself religious or spiritual? If yes, how do your beliefs impact your daily life? I am a born again believer in Jesus Christ and He impacts everything in my life.

5) His real name is Richard Melville Hall. His parents began calling him "Moby" almost immediately because they felt "Richard Melville Hall" sounded too big for a baby. When did you most recently hold a baby?  It would probably be my great-nephew and it's been about a year.

6) He began shaving his head when he was in his 30s. It was at the request of a girlfriend, who said she liked bald men. Would you change your appearance to please your lover?  If he asked I probably would.  But that is a safe answer, because he would never ask me to change my looks.

7) Moby's house was once owned by Marlon Brando and was later rented to The Beatles. What do you know about the previous residents of your home? There were no previous residents.

8) In 2005, when "Beautiful" was released, actress Ruth Warrick died. She began her career in radio, made her film debut in Citizen Kane, and she was best known as matriarch Phoebe Tyler on All My Children, a role she played for 35 years. What's the longest you stayed at the same job? 45 years

9) Random question: Without looking, do you know how much money is in your checking account right now? Approximately.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great day.

Saturday 9 - Hurting Each Other

You can link up here to join in with Saturday 9.

Saturday 9: Hurting Each Other (1972)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This week's song was written by Gary Geld and Peter Udell, who also wrote 1962's "Sealed with a Kiss." What was in the last envelope you sealed?  I think probably a birthday card.

2) In "Hurting Each Other," Karen Carpenter sings she wishes she and her lover could stop making each other cry. Have you most recently shed a tear in the last week, the last month, or longer ago than that? In the last week I've cried while watching a movie.

3) One of the Carpenters' first records was a cover of the Beatles' "Ticket to Ride." Both Karen and Richard were huge fans and nervous about how the Beatles would react to their version. They were thrilled to learn that Paul McCartney responded by saying Karen had "one of the best female voices in the world." Tell us some news you received recently that brightened your day. I was invited to join a small crochet group starting next month.  I'm looking forward to it.

4) Karen died in 1983, but her musical partner and big brother Richard is still with us. He has said he grew up a big fan Top 40 radio, listening every morning as he got ready for school and every afternoon while doing homework. When you were a kid, did you like to study with music or the TV on? Or would you prefer quiet? I prefer quiet.  If music or the TV is on, I start listening on that and absolutely can not focus on my study.  The only kind of music I can listen to and study are songs that have no words or at least that I don't know the words.

5) Karen and Richard spent their teen years in Downey, California. It has the distinction of being home to the nation's oldest, still-operating McDonald's. It's been on the same site on Lakewood Blvd. since 1953. Tell us about a business in your neighborhood that seems to have always been right there, in that spot.  There's a shop in downtown Lebanon called Kay's Shoppe that has been there ever since I can remember.

Photo from Internet

6) The siblings may have had a squeaky clean public image, but Richard did have a brush with the law while in Downey. The Carpenter family lived for a time in an apartment complex, and one of their neighbors -- a policeman -- objected to Richard "banging on the piano" at all hours. When did you most recently interact with an officer of the law? Last Sunday.  We were heading home and a cruiser pulled up in the lane next to us.  It was one of the officers that I had worked with for probably the 25 years of my career.  That was the first time I had seen him to say hi since I retired.  Of course, then the traffic light changed and we had to move on.

7) In 1972, when this song was popular, Mark Spitz was America's premier Olympian, winning seven Gold Medals. A poster of Spitz wearing his red, white and blue swim trunks and all seven medals was a top seller. Can you recall a poster that decorated your bedroom wall when you were a kid? My younger sister and I shared a bedroom for the last 10-15 years that I lived at home.  She collected posters of the old movie stars and modern day ones too.  They were plastered all over the walls of that room.  I owned a few of them such as Bogart and Lauren Bacall.  Most of the rest were hers and included Barbara Streisand, Bette Midler and many, many move.

8) Also in 1972, Liza Minnelli was encouraging us to "come to the cabaret." Without looking it up, do you know who Liza's famous parents were? Judy Garland was her mom.  I don't remember who her dad was.

9) Random question: Are you a better student or teacher? I've never been good at teaching, so I guess I would say student.

Thanks for visiting today.

Saturday 9 - The Christmas Song

The Christmas Song

Welcome to Saturday: 9. The Christmas Song (1964)

 1) While this song was published as "The Christmas Song," many people refer to it as "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire." Have you ever roasted chestnuts (in an open fire or in the oven)? No, I have not roasted them and as far as I know, I've never eaten one either.

2) Ricky Nelson sings that turkey helps make the season bright. Many of us just had turkey last month for Thanksgiving. Do you enjoy turkey all year around? Or do you consider it a seasonal dish?  We eat it all year round.

3) He wishes "Merry Christmas" to kids from 1 to 92. Who is the youngest person you will celebrate the holidays with?  Honestly, at this point, I don't know who we'll be with, if anybody.  My sister was going to host, but she's sick and we planned some time with my mother-in-law, but she is sick too.

4) "The Christmas Song" is a perennial favorite and gets lots of play this time of year. Is there a holiday song that you think is overplayed, and that you hope to not hear again (at least not until December 2023)? Not really, I just enjoy most all of them.

5) This version of the song is from The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, the sitcom that ran from 1952 to 1966. There were 435 episodes in all. Is there a series whose every episode you've seen? NCIS

6) Life magazine coined the phrase "teen idol" to describe Ricky's popularity. In your younger days, did you have a crush on a teen idol? Sure, Bobby Sherman was who came to mind first and there were many others, I'm sure.

7) Do you have a funny/ugly holiday sweater? No, but I have some Christmassy earrings.

8) Have you received many holiday cards this year? Quite a few, actually. Did you send many? Yes.

9) If you were Santa, what cookie would you like kids to leave for you on Christmas Eve? Nestle's Tollhouse Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Thanks for visiting.

Saturday 9 - Two Black Cadillacs

Link up - Saturday 9: Two Black Cadillacs (2011)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This week's song is about two women who share a very dark secret. Are you good at keeping secrets? I think so, but I really prefer not being put in the position to have to.

2) Carrie Underwood's favorite author is Stephen King. In fact, she credits King's Christine as an inspiration for this song. Have you read much Stephen King, or seen movies based on his books? I have read 1 or 2 of his books, but the movies are a little too scary for me (I have seen part of Carrie and The Shining).

3) Carrie first came to America's attention when she won on American Idol. Prior to competing on that show, she'd never been on an airplane. Crazy Sam takes at least one round-trip flight every year and pays using the miles she accumulated from credit card purchases throughout the year. Do you try to earn miles, points, or cash back when you make purchases? Cash back happens with the card we use most.

4) Black is this week's signature color because November 25 was Black Friday, when retailers historically have slashed their prices and the holiday shopping season begins. Have you begun your gift shopping? I've bought 2 gifts.

5) Black Friday began as a local event initiated by store owners in Philadelphia back in the early 1960s. When you think of Philadelphia, what comes to mind? The Liberty Bell and other historical stuff.

6) Black Friday always comes after Thanksgiving, a day of feasting. What was the best dish at your holiday table this year? To me it was the dressing and mashed potatoes (all the carbs! lol).

7) Thanksgiving is also a big day for watching football. Did you watch any games? No

8) What are you thankful for this year? Every day I get up out of bed and have decent health!  You know, just being on this side of the dirt is a real blessing.

9) Random question: You're in a public restroom and have a choice between paper towels and a hot air hand dryer. Which do you choose? Paper towels.

The link up for Saturday is at the top of this post.  Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great day.

Saturday 9 - Things

"Welcome to Saturday: 9. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!" -  From Crazy Sam of Saturday 9.

Saturday 9: Things (1962)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Bobby Darin is sitting beside his window, looking out onto a crowded avenue. What's the view outside your nearest window? My front porch with black Cracker Barrel rockers and then my front yard.

2) He likes to remember the romantic things he and his girl used to do, like walking in the park. When did you most recently go for a leisurely stroll? Did you have a destination in mind, or were you just enjoying the walk for its own sake? Yesterday and lots of days taking a walk in the neighborhood with my dog.  Today we've had 2 really short ones.

3) He notes a couple holding hands. Are you comfortable displaying affection in public? With my husband, yes very much.

4) When Bobby recorded this song, he was married to screen sweetheart Sandra Dee. Today she is best known as the inspiration for the song, "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee." Can you name another song from Grease? Greased Lightening

5) Bobby loved gadgets. He was enthusiastic about his suitcase telephone, which was one of the first mobile phones. Are you an early adapter, or do you wait for new technology to be around awhile and not so new before you try it? Probably wait around awhile.

6) He was a chess fanatic and always kept a magnetic chess board in his briefcase, just in case he found someone who was willing to play him. Are you a good chess player?  No!

7) He very much wanted to play Tony in West Side Story, but he didn't the part because the producers didn't think he looked like a romantic leading man. What actor or actress makes your heart skip a beat?  None really, but Mark Harmon as Jethro Leroy Gibbs on NCIS is definitely easy on the eyes.

8) In 1962, when this song was popular, Jack Nicklaus launched his successful golf career. Do you enjoy playing golf, or watching it on TV? No

9) Random question: Which would we find in your kitchen right now -- cookies or ice cream? Ice Cream

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great Saturday.

Saturday 9 - Forever Your Girl

"Welcome to Saturday: 9. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!"  From Crazy Sam and you can link up here.

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here Saturday 9: Forever Your Girl (1989)

1) In this song, Paula Abdul tells her boyfriend he's got to remember, she's forever his girl. How's your memory? Do you remember things easily or do you leave yourself notes and reminders?  I've never had a very good memory.  I really need to write things down.  I especially had to do that at work.  Of course, there were times when I'd handle a phone call and would scribble some notes down, and then an hour later I'd have trouble remembering what the note was for.  lol

2) Paula reassures her lover that she can't be swayed by another man, even if he gave her diamonds or pearls. Tell us about a piece of jewelry that means something to you. My wedding rings and now I have my dad's wedding band.

3) Paula is best known as one of the original judges of American Idol. Without looking it up, can you recall the men who sat on either side of her? No idea.  I've never really watched the show too much, although now I catch some of the auditions on FB and enjoy them.

4) Paula has been dancing since age 8 and moves very well in heels. Tell us about your favorite shoes. My Skechers and I have several pairs.

5) A lifelong dancer, Paula admits she's not a trained singer. For this record, she worked with producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, who won accolades for his work with singers including Madonna, Kelly Clarkson, Toni Braxton and Janet Jackson. Who is your all-time favorite female singer? Not sure I have a favorite, but I do like Rosemary Clooney, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline (and most all of the old-time country singers), Reba, and many of the women from Southern Gospel Music.

6) She advises young girls to "keep the faith and don't lose your gut instinct." How about you? Are you more logical or instinctive? Instinctive

7) Paula is excited that Richard Branson has chosen her song, "Straight Up" as the theme for his Virgin Galactic Spaceflight company. Would you like to orbit above the earth? Yes

8) In 1989, when this song was a hit, the Sears Holiday Wish Book was big on bathrobes. Men and women alike were tempted with brightly colored, belted robes with hoods and patch pockets. Tell us about your bathrobe. I don't have one.

9) Random question: What do you consider your best quality? That I tend to look on the bright side and I try to be an encourager to others.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great day.

Saturday 9

This Night Won't Last Forever Welcome to Saturday: 9

Saturday 9: This Night Won't Last Forever (1979) Unfamiliar with this week's tune.  Hear it here.

 1) This song begins with, "Everybody likes a celebration." Do you have any birthdays or anniversaries coming up on your calendar? My oldest brother's birthday is next week.  But he passed away in 2014 and his celebration will be in Heaven.  He would have been 72 this year.  I miss you Larry but I know you are in a better place and I'll see you when it's my turn.

 2) The lyrics tell us Michael Johnson is stuck at a party while his heart is breaking. He finds it awkward and painful to pretend there's nothing wrong. Are adept at "putting a good face on it?" Or is it easy for others to tell how you're feeling? Sometimes I'm good at hiding my feelings, but not most of the time.  Or maybe it's just depending on who I'm with whether they show our not.

 3) Michael feels like this is going to be a long night. Is there a part of your day when time tends to drag? Or when it flies? When I was working, time really dragged there, but now it all moves pretty smoothly and even fast if you consider I'm already in my 9th month of retirement.

 4) As bad as he feels right now, he's still hopeful about tomorrow. What are you looking forward to for Sunday? Church services for sure, but especially tomorrow night when we have our monthly Hymn Sing service.  I love these nights.

 5) When he was 13, Michael taught himself to play the guitar. He went on to take formal lessons and mastered classical guitar. What's something you would like learn more about/do better? I want to learn to play the ukulele and/or a dulcimer.  I'm not sure why, but it's been a dream for quite a while.

 6) For a time he performed with a trio known as Denver, Boise & Johnson. The Denver was John. Do you have a favorite John Denver song? Uh!  All of them!!!

 7) He retired to Minneapolis to be near his adult daughter. But he never stopped performing entirely. For years he delighted loyal local fans with with an annual holiday concert on December 26 at Orchestra Hall. Is there a performer you've seen in concert more than once? Multiple Southern Gospel Artists.  Mom and Dad used to take us as kids sometimes and I also went to a couple of the Annual Gospel Quartet Conventions in Nashville with my Aunt and Uncle.

 8) In 1979, when this song was popular, the cable channel ESPN launched. What's the last sporting event that you watched? I'm not too much into watching sports, but I enjoy watching some of the Olympic Sports Events such as gymnastics and ice skating.

 9) Random question: Do you play Wordle? Yes.

Thanks for visiting.

Saturday 9 - Blue Collar Man

Welcome to Saturday 9. Today's meme is Blue Collar Man (1978) Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here

1) In this week's song, we hear a job equated with security. Tell us something that gives you a sense of security. Being with my husband, but most of all knowing Jesus as my savior.

2) Lead singer Tommy Shaw hopes someone will make him an offer he can't refuse. That's a reference to a famous movie quote. Without looking it up, can you name the film? Nope

3) Shaw recalls that this song was inspired by a friend of his, a blue collar worker who had been laid off and was frustrated by the process of job hunting. His friend wanted to work, not fill out forms and job applications and wait days for a response! Do you quickly become impatient? It really depends on what the problem is, but unfortunately I become impatient a lot more than I wish I did.

4) The name "Styx" wasn't the top choice of anyone in the band. As founding member Denis DeYoung recalled, "It was the only name none of us hated." Tell us about a recent compromise you made (which TV show to watch, toppings on your pizza, etc.). The other night we were watching an episode of CSI New York and at the end we found out that there was a Part 2.  I hate to not know the outcome and hubby has no problem with waiting.  So instead of going to another show (which we normally would watch)  hubby agreed to watching Part 2.  That sounds silly because I know we often compromise, but that's really all I can think of right now.

5) Labor Day was introduced to celebrate the achievements of the American worker. How many different employers have you had? 1 full-time employer that I started working for at 19 and just retired from 8 months ago.  Before that I had 4 or 5 part-time employers.

6) The first Waffle House was opened on Labor Day, 1955. What's your preference: waffles or pancakes? Waffles

7) Labor Day mattress sales are a big business. Experts tells us we can expect to spend $1,000 for a good-quality queen-sized mattress. Will you be buying a new one -- or perhaps making another big ticket purchase for your home -- before year end? We may buy some easy chairs for our home, but no mattresses right away.

8) Will you be attending a Labor Day picnic or barbecue? No plans to.

9) Labor Day is the unofficial start of fall. Have you had any pumpkin spice yet? No.  I like pumpkin pie and pumpkin roll, but that is about the only pumpkin I eat.

Thanks for visiting.

Saturday 9

She's in Love with the Boy

She's in Love with the Boy (1991)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song tells the story of Katie and Tommy. She waited for him to pull up in his beat-up Chevy truck. Tell us about your wheels. We have two Dodge Caravan's, one white and one grey.

2) Katie and Tommy stay out until 12:30 AM. What time did you go to bed last night? around midnight

3) The lyrics tell us, "What's meant to be will always find a way." Do you agree?   I guess it depends on what you mean by "what's meant to be".  I believe as a Christian that God determines "what's meant to be" in my life and I believe those things will be worked out sooner or later, if I stay obedient to His will.

4) This was the first big hit for Trisha Yearwood. While she's found her greatest success in music, she's also written top-selling cookbooks. Are you a better singer or cook? I'm not that great at either.  I used to be a decent singer, but my voice is pretty much gone now.

5) Trisha also appeared in six episodes of the TV drama, JAG. She played a medical examiner and forensic pathologist, which means her character had a medical degree and (at least) one year of additional training. That's (at least) five extra years of higher education. Do you enjoy taking classes?  Not really.

6) In real life, Trisha earned a degree in Business Administration before going into music. She uses what she learned in school, keeping a close eye on her finances and those of her superstar husband, Garth Brooks. She says she likes and trusts the people hired to their money, "but I check on them." Do you keep a careful eye on where your money goes?  Probably not as close as I should.

7) In 1991, when this song was popular, Dances with Wolves was a hit in the theaters. Have you seen it?  Yes

8) Also in 1991, Seinfeld was a big deal on the small screen. It's still popular in syndication on cable channels and on streaming services. Do you more often watch broadcast TV or streaming/on-demand channels? We watch streaming channels most of the time.

9) Random question: Have you ever gone a day without laughing? Probably, but I've never really thought about it.

That's it for today.  Thanks for visiting.

Saturday 9

Jack and Diane

From Sam Winters, "Welcome to Saturday 9. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!"
I have never participated in this meme (as I typically don't post on the weekend) but I have read other's posts before.  Thought I'd try it out today.  Click here if you want to link up.

Jack and Diane (1982)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The video for this song features lots of snapshots. Do you have many physical photo albums? I do have several physical albums as I used to do a lot of scrapbooking when my girls were younger.  I also have some photos in boxes.  Or do you store your pictures digitally?  Most of the pictures I've taken in the past 10 years or so are digital and stored that way.

2) This song tells the story of "two American kids growing up in the heartland." Young Jack dreams of being a football star. When you were in high school, did you fantasize about stardom? Sure I did.    If yes, what were you going to be famous for?  My dream was to travel and sing Southern Gospel Music in a group.

3) Diane wears Bobbie Brooks slacks (at least briefly). Bobbie Brooks is a popular brand at Walmart. If you had a $50 gift card for Walmart, would you be more likely to use it toward groceries, clothes, household items, or electronics? I'd use it to purchase whatever we may need at that time.

4) They go to the Tasty Freeze. If you were to run out for fast food right now, where would you go?  Well, we're getting ready to go meet our daughter for lunch at Chili's soon.  She's in Ohio helping a friend for a few days and we're going to meet for lunch.  She wants to treat us for our birthdays which are both in August.

5) When John Mellencamp made this record, he was known professionally as "John Cougar," a stage name suggested by his manager. He has said that adopting a stage name is something he regrets. Looking over your life, if you could take a "do over," what one thing would you like to do differently?  I wouldn't change much of anything because I like our life the way it is.  But if I were to change, it would be to come to know Jesus personally, a lot sooner than I did.

6) Even though he suffered a heart attack, John Mellencamp continues to smoke, admitting that nicotine is something he simply can't kick. Do you have a habit you wish you could break? The way I eat.  I'm eating better most of the time now, but I really need to do a lot better.

7) John's daughter Teddi was one of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She went on to join the cast of Big Brother. Do you watch any reality shows?  The only one I watch semi-regularly is "Survivor".

8) In 1982, when this song was popular, William Windsor was born. He's better known by his job title. Without looking it up, do you know who he is?  Prince William

9) Random question: What do you do when you can't sleep? Read my Kindle or look at my iPad.

Thanks for visiting and thank you Sam Winters for letting me participate in this meme.
