If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Thankful Thursday

I'm writing this Wednesday morning and I just received a text that a good friend and former co-worker/boss passed away last night.  Helen was such a wonderful supervisor at work, but more than that she became a good friend and I enjoyed her so much.  I worked with her from the time I started at the PD in 1976 until she retired in 2000 or 2001.  She is actually the one who trained me in dispatching.  She could be a little gruff when at work, but most people didn't get to know her as I did.  We both loved General Hospital and we talked about it and I remember going to her apartment to watch the episode together where Luke and Laura got married.  Do any of you remember that? But we both loved books, good food and we both loved Jesus.  She gave me such good counsel when needed and was probably one of the best friends I ever had.  I'm only about 6 years older than her daughter, but even with our age difference Helen and I had so much in common.  After she retired, we didn't see each other often or even talk much, but she always called me on my birthday and I always called her on her birthday.  This year in June she turned 86 and as always, I called her, but did not get an answer or even an answering machine to leave a message on.  But she did call me in December just before I retired and we talked then.  This world is a little sadder place without Helen, but heaven is even sweeter now.  I'm looking forward to the day I get to see her again, along with all my other friends and family.  It seems to me that heaven is getting sweeter all the time.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Click above to link up with Joyce

1. According to author Gary Chapman there are five love languages-words of affirmation, quality time, physical touch, acts of service, and receiving gifts. Which one is yours? I believe mine is Words of Affirmation.

2. What are five foods you eat every day? I really don't think there is any food I eat every day.  However most days I eat a few almonds, cashews, and pistachios.

3. Five places you'd love to visit? Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, All the lighthouses along the eastern shore, San Antonio River Walk and Philadelphia

4. Something you've done recently that deserved a 'high five'? Can't think of a thing right now.

5. Give us five 5-letter words that describe your July.  Humid, Fiery, Walks, Quiet, Blest

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great day.

Tuesday 4

Light...

Welcome to another Tuesday 4 by Toni Taddeo. Click here to link up.

Let's talk about light, okay? You light up my life.. shine a light in the darkness, Miller Light. All kinds of light but how about at home?

1. Are you afraid of the dark? Is night or day your favorite time? No, I'm not afraid of the dark, but sometimes I'm afraid of what I cannot see in the dark.  Daytime is my favorite.

2. Do you have night lights in your home? Yes, we do.

3. How low do you set your air conditioning?  Do you adjust it through the day?  We set our air around 68 and seldom adjust it.

4. Do you keep any outdoor or indoor lights on all night? Only the night lights we have to light the bathrooms and the path to get there.  I think we use three.

And this is why I'm not afraid of the dark.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great day.

Bits of This and That

Good morning and I hope you are having a wonderful Monday!  I am so far and I'm trusting the rest of the day will be good too.  I woke up around 6:00 and thought, I really don't feel like walking today.  But Lucy had other plans.  lol  She got up a little bit later than me and definitely wanted to go out.  So out we went and if I was going out, we might as well get our walk done.  And so we did. and it really was very nice.  Here are a few pictures I took while I was out and about.  Some of our neighbors have the most beautiful flowers.

Sorry about the bag in this photo.
I guess I'm trying to hold too many
 things and still take photos.

While walking I listened to another podcast by Lisa Harper called Back Porch Theology.  They've been doing these podcasts for around 6 months and I've only just recently checked them out.  I've listened to 3 or 4 and they are so interesting and fun.  I really just love learning more about Jesus and the Bible.

Here's a screenshot of what I
was listening to.

Last week I started a Prayer and Scripture Wall in my office.  As I've said here before, my daughter used this room multiple years ago as an office where she did here online school work on days she came to church with her day.  A friend helped her decorate the walls with things she loved.  I've left most of her stuff and have added a few of my own.  Well, last week I decided I wanted to write prayer requests and also scriptures that I really like and so I put them on sticky notes and then post them on this wall where she had a bunch of mirrors hanging.  I'll put a picture below.  Anyway, seeing these scriptures and prayer requests each time I'm here reminds me to pray for these needs.  For me, I think that's a good thing as my memory is not always the best.
Ignore the smudges and streaks on the
mirrors as that's what I'm doing.  lol

We had a pretty quiet weekend.  We had lunch out on Saturday and went to the grocery and then just relaxed at home.  On Sunday we had church and then went home and had some ravioli for lunch and took a nap and I did some reading.  I finished 1 book this last week and I'm almost finished with a 2nd one (hopefully today).  I've also got another one by Denise Hunter lined up to start when I finish this one.

Hubby did another sermon from Job yesterday.  It was Session 12 and the final in this series will be this coming Sunday.  I'll post yesterday's below and if you're interested the whole series is on YouTube.  It's been a really good series.

Back to this morning.  After I came back from the walk, I finished the podcast and then did my Bible reading and then swept and mopped the kitchen.  And now, I'm at church in my little office (my happy place) writing this post and hoping to read some blogs from my friends and then we'll see where we go from there. By the way, hubby picked up some breakfast for us and it was waiting for me when I got here.  He's so good to me and I just feel so blessed to get to share life with him.

Well, I hope you have a great day and thanks for visiting.

Thankful Thursday

Click here to link up with Jennifer.

Today I am thankful for:

**having time after walking this morning to sit and cool down and relax and talk to hubby about some scripture I've been reading in Isaiah.  I realized that there's a lot in Isaiah I'm not super familiar with.  I know the really good ones that prophesize Jesus and multiple others.  But there's so much there I don't remember reading, but I know that I have read it.  It's such a blessing to me that I live with my pastor and he's always willing to answer my thousands of questions.

**YouVersion Bible App..I love this app and use it daily.  I'm currently reading one of the Chronological Plans and this really keeps me on track.

**Lucy...I'm so glad she's completely back to normal and is able to walk with me again.

**Reading...I'm finally getting back to reading again and am reading a book by Denise Hunter that I bought a few months ago with a gift card given to me as a retirement present.

**simple life...Life is pretty simple and laid back for me right now and I'm loving it!

Well that's all for right now.  I hope you'll link up with Jennifer and start being intentionally thankful each Thursday with us.

Thanks for visiting.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Click above to link up with Joyce and the Hodgepodge.

1. Last time you drove more than 100 miles from your home?  We've taken several day trips this year and they've been around 100 miles give or take.  Where did you go? On one of our day trips we went to Richmond, KY to see the new Buc-ees and then as we headed back toward home we stopped and saw the Boonesborough Fort replica.

2. Something that drives you batty? Mosquitoes.  I have been bitten so many times this year and I'm really not even outside that often (except for walking the dog at all times of the day or night).

3. Do you feel like you're 'on track'? Yes for some things anyway. For what? I feel like I'm doing pretty good at keeping up with my walking.  I try to get in at least 30 minutes every day.

4. Your favorite car snack(s)?

5. Something you've done recently 'on the fly'?  I can't really think of anything specific.  Actually since I've retired, I feel like a lot of our life is on the fly.  We pretty decide what we're going to do for the day and go with it.  Of course, some days are planned in advance.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I believe I have shared this on my blog before, but when I saw it this morning I wanted to share it again.  I believe it is so important for us to realize how deep God's love is for us.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a really great day!

Tuesday 4

Inquiring Minds Wanna Know...

From Annie - "Hello!  You are so welcome here at Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.   I hope you are enjoying the questions and the chance to blog about your likes, dislikes and opinions and find out about those of other people.  Be sure to visit around.  That is part of the fun."  The link is here if you'd like to participate.

Let's inquire about stuff....

1. What gets your blood to boiling? To see someone mocking someone or belittling them or just plain old being a bully!  I don't like to see anyone mistreated.

2.What does a really good day look like for you? Most any day that I can spend with my husband, whether working or playing. What makes you say, "That was a great day"?  See above and when that day happens to include a little sight-seeing it becomes really great.

3. Are you continuing to grow mentally, spiritually, talent wise or are you  just marking time?  I feel that I'm continuing to grow in those areas, probably especially spiritually.

4. Have you changed your hair style since high school? I think so.  Why or why not.  Seeing my senior picture it's different now because it's actually a little longer (although I just had about an inch trimmed off yesterday) and more of a bob cut since then.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great day.

Bits of This and That

We had a pretty quiet weekend and that's the way I like it.  Friday, we picked up his mom and had lunch at Chuy's which is a Mexican restaurant and it was delicious and it was fun being together.  Then we dropped her off at home and went to the church for a bit waiting to pick Lucy up from the vet.  She was there getting her teeth cleaned and also ended up having a tooth extracted.  She was rather groggy all evening and I think she just looked so pitiful and believe me, she knows how to use that to her advantage. lol

See what I mean!

On Saturday, I got up and took my walk early, but I didn't take Lucy as she really still didn't seem to be up to par quite yet.  She did better as the day went on.  Hubby and I went to lunch at Texas Roadhouse and then I went to the grocery and then we got a Starbucks and spent the rest of the day at home, doing laundry and watching some TV.

Sunday we went to church, picked up a sandwich on the way home and then took a nice nap before heading back for the evening service.  It was a really good day.  Below is a YouTube video of the morning sermon.

Well that's about all I have to say about our weekend.  I hope you had a really good weekend and I'd love to hear about yours.

Thanks for visiting.

The moon was still out on my morning walk today.

I saw these guys in the next 3 pictures playing around.

These little ones were running around playing

As I was walking, I was listening to this podcast and when I got back I sat on the front porch so I could finish listening to the Back Porch Theology.  The pictures below show my views from the front porch.  Also if you enjoy Lisa Harper, this was a really good podcast and evidently she is doing these weekly.  This is the first one that I've heard.

Thankful Thursday

Things I am thankful for today:

***Jesus...I don't want to live without Him.

***My Husband...I hope I never have to live without him.

***My girls and their families and I love them beyond measure and I think they love me the same.

***My church family who make worshipping Jesus together so wonderful.

***I'm also thankful for Rebecca Jo and Jennifer who continue to lead us on Thankful Thursday.  Rebecca Jo posted today that she is going through some really hard times right now and I know she could really use some prayer.  So if God should bring her to your mind anytime, please lift her up in prayer.  I know she will appreciate it.

And He did you too

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great day.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Do you like the beach? How far do you have to drive to get to the nearest beach? Your least favorite thing about the beach? Last beach trip you took? Yes, I like the beach.  I'm not sure how far the nearest one is.  But we typically go to Myrtle Beach for our beach fix and it's over 600 miles to there from home.  I'm not a fan of the loose sand, I much prefer to walk on the sand packed down from the waves.  I also can't handle the really hot, hot days which is why we go in November usually.  Our last beach trip was in November 2021.  Don't know yet if we will make it there this year.

2. Are you known for making waves or are you more of a 'go along to get along' kind of person? Explain. I typically try not to make waves.  I'd rather just get along.  However, that being said, I will not compromise on the truth.  I still don't want to fight about it, but I'm willing to discuss what I believe as long as we do it kindly.

3. A favorite song that in some way references the beach? A favorite book and/or movie with a beach-y setting? Most anything by the Beach Boys reminds me of the beach and Jimmy Buffet songs too.  As far as a movie, I always enjoyed the old beach movies that Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon were in, such as Beach Blanket Bingo, etc.  Also Elvis made some pretty good beach movies too such as Blue Hawaii. Probably one of the favorites would be Soul Surfer.  Death in Paradise is a pretty good beach TV series.  Below is a video of the Beach Boys singing Kokomo.

4.Tuesday is National Simplicity Day...what's a simple pleasure you've enjoyed this week? What's something you could eliminate from your life to make things simpler? My early morning walks with the dog and relaxing with hubby in the evenings.  I can't eliminate it but I'd love to be able to not have to deal with getting enrolled with Medicare...so far, nothing has been simple.  lol  But I do know that eventually it will get done and that's a relief to know.

5. What's something you love to do? Do you do it often? Why or why not? I love to read and sometimes I do it often and sometimes not.  No real reason but just the way it is.

6. Insert your own random thought here.
This came from the YouVersion App

Tuesday 4

Pioneer Spirit

Howdy Partners and Buckaroos... Welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.  Click here, if you'd like to link up.

1.  All our ancestors are pioneers and came to America from someplace else.  Where did your people come from?  My dad's family came from Germany.  Ancestry says I'm 49% from England & Northwestern Europe and 22% Scotland.

2.  Do you know when and why they came to America?  I believe my great great grandpa and his brother came during the Potato Famine.  If the stories I've heard are true, one paid passage (I actually found him listed on the ship he came on) and the other was a stowaway.  Without looking it all up right now, I believe that would have been in the mid 1800's.

3.  Have you been a bit of a pioneer in some way?    Does that spirit live in you?    Perhaps moving on to a new job, new home, new state, new country, maybe a change in  religion or church?  No, I don't consider myself a pioneer as I held the same job for 45 years and have lived within a 20 mile radius of where I am right now all my life.

4.   Do you enjoy Western movies or TV programs?    They don't make many now but there are re-runs available?   Which do you watch?  Yes I do like Westerns, although I haven't watched on in ages (but John Wayne has always been my favorite).  I also enjoy reading books that take place back in the West, whether modern day West or historical West.

Well, that's it for today.  Thank you Annie for the fun questions.

Thanks for visiting.

Thankful Thursday

You can link up here if you'd like t join in.

This is kind of how I feel today, but I'm choosing to be thankful and hopefully it will help me to not be whining and complaining and instead just enjoy the day.

So today here are some things I am thankful for:

*Blue skies and sunshine

*I can stay inside most of the day in the A/C

*My oncologist prescribed some meds that are really helping with the terrible hot flashes I've been having because of the daily pill I take to kill the estrogen to keep the cancer away.  Both pills are doing their job well.  But I'm still thankful for the A/C.  lol

*Good books to read free through Libby App and 2 different libraries I use to find the books I want.

*Some good old shows that we are binge watching.

*Our stinky little dog who gladly gets up early and goes walking with me.  Days I wake up and I'm not in the mood, she helps me by needing to go out anyway, so I might as well just do the walk and get it done and we are both happier because of it.

*All the time I can get with my husband.

*I'm also thankful for you who sometimes read my blog and comment.  I feel like I am blessed by each one of you.

Thanks for visiting and I really hope you have a wonderful day!
