Holiday Thoughts

From Annie, "Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 which you can do any day of the week you want! No time limit.
It's frigid across Canada and America and winter is early this year.
There are only a few days left until Christmas...how are you spending this time?" Link is here.

1.What are you up to in preparation for the holidays?  I finished my last bit of gift shopping this morning.  Now, we'll see if they all get delivered on time.

2. What is your absolute favorite holiday movie? White Christmas

3. What are your hopes for this coming season? That I'll stay as close to Jesus as I can and that others will see Him in me.  But truly this is my hope for every day of my life.

4.  Tell us your view on the great tea/coffee/hot chocolate debate and do you want it with fruitcake or cookies?  Come on own up!! Hot Chocolate with cookies.

Thanks for visiting and tell me your answers.  I'd love to know your thoughts.

Share 4 Somethings - November 2024

This is my November post of Share 4 Somethings, where I'll talk about the things I loved/disliked, accomplished, improved upon/needs improvement and something I noticed. Link-up is here.

Loved or Disliked:  I'm loving watching all the Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channels and Great American Family Channel.  I'm also enjoying working jigsaw puzzles.

Accomplished: I finished crocheting and gifting the baby blanket I made for our nephew's new baby.

Improved Upon/Needs Improvement: I've been pretty behind on my reading goal for 2024.  I improved on this by reading several books in October and November.  I still need to read 9 more to reach my goal.  I probably won't reach that goal, but I'm happy with what I've read.

Noticed: Winter is here.  We've had some snow a few days ago and now the temperature has dropped a lot and it appears it's going to stay this way for a bit. It's Friday night as I'm editing this post and it's snowing (really just flurries, but it looks like it's sticking).  We didn't expect it. But on a Friday night when I don't have to go anywhere, I can certainly enjoy it and say, "Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow!

That's the end of my Share 4 Somethings for this month.  Thanks for reading and I hope you have a great weekend. Again, the Link-up is here.

Bits of This and That - Hello Monday

 Good Morning Friends:

It's Monday morning and I'm linking up with Hello Monday.  We had a nice weekend and I'm going to share a little bit with you.

Our oldest daughter came to town this week. She flew in on Monday and her friend picked her up at the airport and Kelli spent the first part of the week with her and her family.  On Thursday, we met them in Dayton at a Cracker Barrel and had brunch together and then Kelli came home with us for the rest of her trip.  I hate to say it, but I did not take one single picture of us and all the family we visited with.  But here's a picture she just shared with me from her trip to Italy.

We had so much fun and good talks and visits with family.  It was a wonderful weekend for sure.

Thursday afternoon after we got home, we just all sat and relaxed and enjoyed being together. Then Kelli and I left as we had tickets to go see "Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot" and she wanted to go to the Half Price Book Store first.  Half Price Book Stores were our favorite family place to go almost every Saturday for many years. Great memories going there.  Then we headed to the movie and checked in and then went next door to the Rusty Bucket for dinner as we still had an hour before the movie.  Food was good and so was the service.  The movie was very good and even opened some good chats afterwards about adoption.  I don't know if all of you know our girls were adopted.  They are half-sisters and came to live with us when they were 2 and 5. It was a year or so later that we actually were able to adopt them officially. Best choice hubby and I ever made!

On Friday, we spent the morning at home and Kelli and I actually got to do a week of our Bible Study in person.  Here's a picture Kelli took that I stole off FB.

That evening she went and visited with her grandma and then had supper with her aunt from her biological family.  I know she enjoyed the time with each of them. When she came home, the weather had cooled down quite a lot, so she did some work in the back yard that needed to be done.  After a bit, I went out to help her.  I think that now, I'll be able to get the rest of it finished.

On Saturday, we finished the last video of our Bible study and then got cleaned up and went downtown to visit some of the antique and specialty stores.  And then we found a new used bookstore, that I've never been in before.  It was such a cute place and we had a really good time.

This is the store cat. Very friendly.

Then that evening we went to my sister's and our brother and his family all came and we had so much fun together. So Kelli got to visit my whole side of the family at once.  It was definitely a great evening.  But again, no pictures.

We all went to church Sunday morning and it had been quite a few years since Kelli had been back to the church. It was fun for her to get to catch up with everyone there.  Their daddy was installed as the pastor of this church the same month the girls came to live with us...we also moved into our new house (which my dad built) that same month!  Needless to say, September, 1996 was a very wonderful and crazy month for all of us!  lol

After church, we went to Kelli's favorite pizza place (they don't have them in Florida) and got lunch with Tracy's family.  Again, it was a great time of catching up for Kelli.  It's been over 2 years since Kelli was in Ohio.

After evening service, Kelli and I sat at the table and played a couple of games of Sequence.  Here's another picture from Kelli's FB.  She very graciously did not get much of me in the picture as I was already in my pj's and nobody wants to see that! lol

We all ended up going to bed a little early (at least for us) because we had to be up this morning at 5:30 to get her to the airport to go home.  She's in the air over Atlanta as I'm typing this.  It's been such a truly great time together!

Thanks for visiting!

Bits of This and That

Good morning on this Monday!

The dog woke up early and was ready to go out, so out we went.  I did not sleep much last night as I drank a Diet Coke with my late supper and the caffeine kept me awake.  I know better than to do do that, but I did it anyway and will be paying for it today.  lol  Anyway, it was cloudy and cool, but the next time we went out, we found out that it's raining.  And I am so thankful for the rain.  Our yard needs it big time and it will save me from having to water the flowers today, which is a wonderful thing.

We've had another quiet weekend.  We watched a couple of Hallmark Mystery movies which is always fun.  We went to lunch on Saturday with my mother-in-law and we didn't do much else.  Except for some cleaning and laundry and sorting trying to get some more stuff out of the house.  I just scheduled a pick-up for next Monday morning.  If I don't do this, I'll never get rid of the stuff I want to get rid of.  I'm such a procrastinator.  lol

I also did some crocheting and reading.  I'm still working on the baby blanket and I've got several books from Libby that I'm reading.  The one I'm reading most is called Spice Box by Grace Livingston Hill.  I believe it was written in 1943.  When I was younger, I read a lot of books by this author.  My sister actually collected them and my grandma loved them too.  I don't know if this is one I read or not, but I'm enjoying it now.

Hubby started a new series this week and I've posted the pre-recorded message below for anyone who may want to listen.

So what did you do this weekend? Do tell, I would love to know.  Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great week.

Bits of This and That

Good morning!

Happy Monday everyone.  It's been another nice weekend.  On Saturday I got up early and took another 30 minute walk with the dog and then came home and got cleaned up and headed out to lunch with my sister and her husband and my husband's mom.  It was so fun being with family and eating and laughing and talking.  Such a nice time together.  After that we went home and enjoyed a quiet evening watching a couple Hallmark Mystery Movies.  We both have been enjoying these in the last couple months.  We watched one of the Chronicle Mysteries and Mystery 101 movie series,  And I think hubby has a couple more of these recorded to watch.  We usually only watch movies on the weekend.  I know there are some new movie mysteries coming up yet this month that he has set to record.

On Sunday we had 2 church services and in between hubby and I had Chipotle for lunch and then took a nice nap.  Below is the pre-recorded sermon from Sunday.  It is the last in the series called Big Promises for Big Problems.  This one is titled God's Answer to Despair.

So it was a really nice and relaxing weekend.  Just the way we like it.  Oh and I forgot, we finally got some good rain Sunday evening, which we desperately needed,  Thank you God.

Bits of This and That Including Tuesday 4

Hubby and I had a nice weekend.  On Saturday we went out for a quick lunch and then I took him back home and I headed out to meet with my sister, mother-in-law, and a cousin.  We went to the movies and saw Chonda Pierce's new movie called Roll With It.  All four of us loved it. There was lots of laughter and man, that girl can sing!  Here's a trailer of it.

Sunday we had a great service and then went and spent the afternoon with hubby's mom and his brother, sister-in-law and nephew.  I never even thought to take a picture.  After that we enjoyed the evening at home.  Below, I've posted hubby's pre-recorded sermon.  It's the 4th in his current series.  So just in case any of you have been listening in, I've posted it.

Yesterday, I went and had my annual mammogram and physical exam with the Nurse Practioner at my surgeon's office.  All appears well!  Thank you Jesus!  And this is my friendly public service announcement.  Don't forget your annual mammogram.  You don't want to have to go through what I had to in 2016.

And now onto Tuesday 4.

Reading

Welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4. We enjoy having you here and love reading your responses on your own blogs. I sure hope you enjoy the questions and seeing what others have to say.

Would you like to talk about books?

1.  If you had to flee this life and there was a posibility to actually live in a     place based on a story or book or movie, which would you choose and     why? Not to be boring, but I really can't think of a time that I would rather live in.  I think the last 60 years have brought so many major inventions and conveniences to our world, I can't imagine wanting to live without all that.  While there have been bad things also, there have always been bad things.  So I think I'll just stay right here.  Now, it you're talking our future, I can't wait to see heaven!

2.  What kind of story line do you just not like either in books or movies.I do not like horror stories or anything dealing with demons or the occult.

3   How many of the Great Classics have you read and/or popular book series? I really don't have any idea.  I've read Little Women, several times and the Little House Books.  I've read several of C S Lewis' books and most of the Mitford Series and also most of Karen Kingsbury's books.

4.  There are reading playlists available for various genres of literature. Do you play any music while reading? No, typically I do not listen to music when reading.

Thanks Annie for the Tuesday4 questions.  If anyone else would like to join in, click here.

Thanks for visiting.

Things I'm Enjoying This Week

Doing a new kind of post today.  These are some things I am enjoying this week.

** Books - I'm currently in the middle of two books.

Actually, I finished this book last night.
I plan to get another one by the same
author later today.

This one is going a little slower for me.
There are lots of descriptions and I'm more
of a person that wants things happening and
I need very little description of where they
are.  Although, it's been fun because Ellen at the
Happy Wonderer
is posting about her trip
to the place that this book is about.  So, I'm
actually seeing some of the places on her
post that are in this book.  You should check
her out today.

**Sky -  There was a beautiful sky the other night as the sun was starting to set. Of course, I feel my phone seldom does the view true justice.

**Inspire Bible - I am so enjoying this Bible.  I enjoy the coloring and I know I can journal in it too.  Here are a couple of the pictures from the book of Ruth that our current Sunday morning sermon series of Unexpected Graces is from.

**Movies - I'm enjoying watching free faith-based movies even when they make me cry sometimes.
"The Girl Who Believes in Miracles" (and it
really did make me cry) is really good.  I
watched it on Tubi.

Well, that's all I have time for right now, as I have to go meet my sisters in a few minutes.  I hope you all have a really great day.  Thanks for visiting.

Bits of This and That

 Good Monday Morning to Everyone!

Hubby and I had a nice weekend, but I did not even take one photograph.  lol  In general, I did some laundry (so glad the dryer is fixed) and did some reading, and watched some TV with hubby, and just had a fairly quiet weekend.

I'm still reading this book.  I do enjoy books by Karen Kingsbury and this one is good too.  I'm about 80% through it and, who knows, maybe I'll finish it today.  (UPDATE:  I just finished it).

Not my picture - borrowed from
the internet.

On Friday, hubby and I drove to Kentucky and spent some time at the Viewing Area of the Cincinnati/Covington Airport.  If you've been here very long, you probably know hubby and I have a thing about aviation.  We both enjoy watching the landings and take-offs and we have an app that no matter where we are, if we see a plane, we can usually identify who they are and where they came from and where they are going.  I'm always taking time to look up planes when they fly overhead while I'm out with Lucy.  I can't always find them, but it's fun when I do.

Saturday, we spent the morning at home and then picked up his mom and went to lunch.  After that I did some Walmarting and we got a Starbucks drink on the way home.  That evening we watched the 4th Harry Potter movie.

Again, not my photo.
Borrowed from the internet.

On Sunday we went to church and Sunday School and I've attached the video of the morning sermon below.  After that we stopped and picked up some lunch from Skyline Chili and headed home.  We both took an afternoon nap and then back to church for our monthly Hymn Sing (where we spend and hour singing the old Hymns of the church.  I so love the Hymns.

That pretty much wraps up our weekend.  We're at church this morning and hubby is waiting for a video appointment with one of his doctors.  And I'm here, working on this post and soon will be doing some homework from our Bible Study for tomorrow night.

I hope you all had a good weekend and thanks for visiting.

Bits of This and That

Happy Labor Day!   Hubby and I had a really nice weekend.  On Saturday we met my sister and her husband and had lunch together.  Later my sister and I went and put fall flowers on mom and dad's grave and also at my brother's site.  I didn't take any pictures this time but they were a beautiful fall orange color.

Finished a book - Infatuation by Jean Kuhnke and then started another one by her called Freya (update:  Actually, I finished this around 4:00 this morning, as we were having lots of thunder, which makes the dog bark, which keeps me up. lol).  My sister found her books (I think she said that she has written over 30 some books so far) and really liked them and she has eventually bought all of them in the Kindle version.  We figured out how to loan Kindle books and she's sending them to me to read now, a few at a time.  So far, most of the ones I've read have been less than 200 pages.  She is a Christian author and she writes a lot of her stories from the mid to late 1800's  history, but at least one I've read has been more modern day.  She is still actively writing, so I'm sure she will be someone I will read for a long time.

Started our annual (however, we missed it last year) Harry Potter Marathon.  We watch one every Saturday night until we're finished.  We should be watching the last one on October 22 and we think the Christmas movies start the next week and vacation starts after that.

Sunday we had 2 really good services and some Chinese for lunch and a good nap and some reading in between.  Below is hubby's morning sermon continuing on his Series from Hebrews.

Thanks for visiting.
