If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1.Why do you blog? Have your reasons changed over time? My first post was on September 13, 2008 and can be seen here.  I was challenged by a co-worker who had started blogging and it sounded like fun.  I really didn't have more of a reason than that.  Now, all these years later, I'm still here.  Sometimes I consider stopping, but I've made friends here and I really don't want to lose those friendships.  I just really like you people!

2. What's a typical Friday night look like at your house?  Friday evenings are typically, very quiet and often we will order in for supper.  We usually watch some of the shows we are currently binging.

3. Do you like donuts? Yes Your favorite kind? Creme filled powder sugar donuts and jelly filled donuts.  How often do you treat yourself to a donut? Maybe once a month, but not always.  Have you ever made homemade donuts? Nope.

4. How do you feel about shopping? It's an evil necessity.  lol Are you an online shopper? Yes Catalog shopper? Rarely Brick and mortar shopper? Yes, mostly Walmart and Krogers and of course, Hobby Lobby, Michaels and Joann's for my yarn habit.   Do you order groceries online or prefer to select items with your own two hands? We use Krogers' Click List when we need a lot.  If we just need a couple of things, I'll run in and get it.

5. Next week's Hodgepodge finds us somehow in the month of April, which just so happens to be National Poetry Month. Sum up (or tell us something about) your month of March in the form of a limerick. You can do it!!

March had lots of rain
Which was sometimes rather much of a pain
But the green green grass and budding trees
Were really beautiful when I took Lucy out to pee.
And I believe in April we'll do it all again.

Wow, that was hard and I am definitely not a poet.  lol

6. Insert your own random thought here. I sure could go for some beach time right about now.

Thanks for the questions again this week, Joyce.  Thanks everyone for visiting and I hope you all have a great day.

Tuesday 4 - Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home
Welcome!  It's time again for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.

How would it be if we talk about some things related to home?

1. What styles of décor do you like?  Mid Century?  Colonial?  Contemporary? I call my style Early American Garage Sale.

2.   What  makes your bedroom comfortable? Really nothing right now.  I actually sleep in the livingroom in a recliner and I'm pretty happy with that.

3   What do you think makes a home comfortable and welcoming?  To me, it would be plenty of seating for friends and an open ear and a smile on the face.

4. Do you share your home with pets? Yes. Would you tell us about them please? We have a dog that is half Yorkie and half Lhasa Apso.  She is 9 years old and she is very spoiled and pretty much runs the household whenever she can get away with it.  Her name is Lucy and her personality would be very much like Lucy on Charlie Brown or Lucy from I Love Lucy.

Lucy on Gotcha Day, December of 2013.

Thanks Annie, for these questions.  They were fun.  Thanks for visiting everyone and you can link up here if you'd like to participate in Tuesday 4.

Bits of This and That

Good Morning:

We have a gloomy, rainy Monday morning around here.  Hubby checked the weather and told me that the rain was going to stop in the next hour or so and then the sun is supposed to show itself.  Looking forward to that.  We had a good weekend.  We've had some rain, some sunshine, and fairly decent temperatures.

I read a book by one of my favorite authors, Lori Wick.  The book is called Every Storm.  This is at least the third time I've read this book and I still love it.

We went our for lunch some of the days and each evening we spent at home, doing a bit of housework and watching some TV and even crocheting.  Both blankets I'm working on are coming along slowly, but that's okay as long as they keep growing,

On Sunday, we went to Sunday School and Church.  Below is the pre-recorded Sunday morning Sermon which is #4 in the series What the Cross Meant.

And that pretty much sums up our weekend.  I hope you had a good one too.  Thanks for visiting.

Share 4 Somethings - March 2023

I'm linking up with Jennifer at Overflowing with Thankfulness for Share 4 Somethings.  The prompts are things we loved, read, learned and ate in March.

Loved:  I loved getting some clearance yarn to make something with.  I haven't yet finished the other project, but started a new one with the yarn I bought as a friend has a new grandbaby coming in May and I want this for him.  This yarn is regularly $13.99 a skein and it was on sale for $3.49 each.  I think that's pretty awesome!

This is the new one I've started

And here is the other one

Read:  I've read 5 books in March and currently I've started a 6th book and hope to finish it before the end of the month. If you're curious about what I've read you can check my Good Reads link in the right sidebar. EDIT this morning.  I'm having a hard time getting into the book I started (it's the 4th in the series I've been reading by Alana Terry.  I'm pretty sure I'll get back to it soon though.), so last night I started a book by my favorite author, Lori Wick called Every Storm.  I've already read it a couple of times with the last time being in 2021.

I've also been reading the 4 Gospels along with Annie F. Downs.  This month we're reading the Gospels in the NLT version and chronologically.

Learned: Though I've read Amos before, I never realized how much good there really is in it.  I'm really enjoying this study by Jennifer Rothschild.

Ate: Probably my favorites this month are both Chinese.  One is called the Great Tang and it is a very good, small sit-down type place and the other is Hunan House Buffet and it is also very good.

Well that's my 4 Somethings for March.  You can link up here if you'd enjoy writing a Share Something post or visiting others who have.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a good weekend.

Thankful Thursday

Today, I am so thankful for many things including, my hubby, my daughters, my grandson, my extended family, my church family and most of all Jesus Christ who died for my sins. I'm so thankful for all of God's creation and often stand in wonder when looking up to the sky (both day and night) and looking out on the ocean when I'm on vacation and also the beautiful mountains.  I'm also in awe of the animals and birds and all He made (well, maybe not snakes and spiders lol)

I've been watching a live webcam for the last week or so where 2 eagles (Bette and Baker) are taking turns sitting on the eggs. I'm so thankful to have this view and get to watch these wonders of God's Creation. The first one hatched on Monday and the second one hatched yesterday.  They are just little fluffballs right now.  But when you see mom and dad, both of who are so regal and magnificent, I realize that one day the little fluffballs will be just like them.  I've snapped a couple of photos from the live feed that I'll post below.  If you'd like to watch them you can google Little Miami Conservancy.  It's worth a watch.

Aren't they the cutest!

So magnificent looking

There are so many more things, such as waking up another day on this earth and health and freedom to worship (so many others do not have this privilege).  I hope you will take a moment to consider what you are thankful for and to take a moment and thank God for all He has done.  And if you haven't accepted the precious blood of Jesus to cover your sins, I hope you will make that choice today. Romans 10: 9-11 says "If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”

Thanks for visiting. You can link up here, if you'd like.

Bits of This and That

Good Morning:

How are things in your neck of the woods?  It's good here with blue skies and sunshine, although, it is still pretty cold.  It's only 29 degrees here right now, however, it's supposed to reach 49.  I'm looking forward to that.  And I believe it's supposed to get warmer as the week goes.  It's been a cold and windy weekend too, but we still enjoyed it.

I finished book #3 in a series I'm reading by Alana Terry and immediately went to Libby and checked out book #4.  I also, bought another book by Jean L. Kuhnke and that's the one I'm currently reading and will hopefully finish it today or tomorrow.

finished this

currently reading this
will start this soon

Over the weekend, we ate out a couple of times and I went to 2 different Hobby Lobby's for a total of 3 visits and I also went to Joann's once.  I bought yarn to make 3 different baby blankets.  They both had some nice sales and with Hobby Lobby they are closing out of some of their yarn and it was such a good price, I couldn't resist.  No pictures, but I'll try to show the finished projects at some point.

We've also been watching a live feed of 2 eagles (Bette and Baker) in our county who are sitting on their 2 eggs.  I check in every so often.  I believe one is hatching today sometime.  It started late last night,  If you are interested, you can google Little Miami Conservancy.  The below pictures are from the live feed that I had playing on our TV.

On Sunday we went to Sunday School and Church and then went home for a nap and back to church for the evening Bible Study.  I'll post the pre-recorded Sunday Sermon in case any of you are following along on the series.

Well, there's our weekend in a nutshell.  I hope you had a good one too.

Tuesday 4 - Saint Patrick

Saint Patrick

It's time once again for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.

Since Saint Patrick's Day is March 17 it might be nice to talk about it.

1. Do you celebrate the day and is it more secular or religious for you?  No, I don't celebrate it.  Sometimes if I happen to think about it, I might wear green.

2. Americans eat corned beef and cabbage but it's not traditional in Ireland at all.   In my  house its Colcannon and Beef Stew or Cottage pie (shepherds pie made with beef instead of lamb).. which is more realistic and far less salty.  Do you make special meals for holidays?  No, not really.  What will you make for St. Patrick's Day?  I have no idea.  Since it's on Friday, we may just order in pizza or something.  Way to early to know.  lol

3.  Do you have much green in your wardrobe? No Does the color look good on you? Never really thought about it.

4. In school we put up giant green shamrocks and Leprechauns. We made green paper chains to decorate our classrooms.  What do you do to decorate?  I do not decorate for St. Patrick's Day.

Thanks for visiting.  You can link up with Tuesday 4 here.

Bits of This and That

Good morning.  It's Monday and another week is over and another week is starting.  Are you ready?  I'm not totally sure I am, but ready or not, here it is.  lol

Hubby and I had another nice weekend.  Our dog enjoyed it too as we seemed to be home more this weekend than usual.  Here are a few things we did:

Lunch out together both Friday and Saturday and dinner at home each night.  Dinner at night being very eclectic.  We both just made our own and I really like doing that, him...not quite so much.

We watched a Hallmark Mystery type movie on Saturday night and I always enjoy that.  Both Friday and Saturday, we did a little binge watching of shows we like.

I shopped a little, but just for things we needed.

We had a Starbucks on Saturday...probably the first time this year.

Saturday we took a drive after lunch to check out an eagles nest we had heard about.  We found the next, but could not see any birds.  My understanding is that there are some eggs in there, so I'm sure we'll go back to check it out every so often.

After that we headed towards home and I ran into a fairly new store in our town called Carli's Cookie Company.  I've heard good things and I must say they didn't disappoint.  I got an MM cookie and a Reese's Peanut Butter cookie.  Both were good.  And the little storefront is very cute.

On Friday I finished a book I was reading and started #2 in the series and then I finished #2  this morning and I've already downloaded #3.  I guess you could say I like them.  lol  Alana Terry is a new to me author and she evidently has several series of books over the years.  I just found out this morning that this series (A Kennedy Stern Christian Suspense Novel) has 9 books.  I've been finding them on my Libby App.  This is not my typical read, because suspense or mystery books can make me a little nervous.  And these have done that, but I just put them down for a bit and then start again later.  It's working and I'm getting a little invested in the main character, so unless something changes I plan on finishing the series.  Here are the first 3 in the series,

On Sunday we went to church, had some chicken for lunch and then took a nice nap and did a Bible Study lesson and read some more of book 2. Here's Sunday's pre-recorded sermon.

So we had a nice weekend (oh, and both vehicles have been repaired and the cost wasn't too hateful).  Hope you all had a nice weekend too.

Friday Photos and SkyWatch Friday

Good morning on this lovely Friday.  Well, actually, it's not that lovely outside, but it is good to be awake and feeling good for another day on this planet.  I don't know what we're going to do today, but I'm sure we'll get into something.  So far, we slept in and I've done some reading.  Fixed myself some breakfast and for Lucy too and now it's time to do some blogging.  Here are a few photos from my week and some sky shots for SkyWatch Friday.

Another photo of Lucy with my new phone camera.  She is so happy
when there's a blanket piled up in a chair that she can lay on.

I wanted to see how my phone camera would do with a moon shot at night.
I definitely need to learn how to do a night shot.  But I still like this picture.

Sunrise the next morning

And the moon was still up after the sunrise.

Lucy and I took an afternoon walk and this flag was so pretty blowing
in the wind with the bright blue skies behind it.

Here's a closer look at the flag.  I so love the American Flag.

You can link up with SkyWatch Friday here.  Hope you all have a great day.

Thankful Thursday

Good morning:

Today I am thankful for our Bible Study starting up again.  I really love these ladies that all come together to learn more about God's Word.  After all these years (I really can't remember when we started, but I know we were doing them in 2008), we have all grown closer and really love each other.  We have ladies of all ages (going from young mother with a 6 week old baby and ladies in their 80's), races, denominations and different walks of life.  We have those that are retired, those that are getting close to retirement and those that are just a few years into their careers.  We've been together for a long time.  Some have passed on, like my mom and several others.  We miss them, but we know we'll be together again in God's timing.  We use video driven Bible Studies by many different speakers.  We've had Beth Moore, Priscilla Shire, Kelly Minter, Angela Thomas Pharr, Lisa Harper, and now we are doing one called Amos, by Jennifer Rothschild.  I have loved them all and I am so blessed to be part of this group.

I have so much to be thankful for, but I think this is all I will post for today.  So what are you thankful for? Link up here.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. We're in to a season students call 'spring break'. Did you/your family travel over spring breaks when you were growing up? Tell us something about a 'spring break' you remember (from childhood or adulthood, either one). I really don't recall ever going on vacation for spring break when growing up.  If we were traveling, it was usually during Christmas break.

2. Last thing you broke? Was it a big deal? I broke the glass screen protector on my old phone and it wasn't a big deal really.  Especially now it's not a big deal because we just got new phones.

3. March 7th is National Cereal Day...are you a fan? What's your favorite? If not cereal what's your favorite breakfast? Your typical breakfast? I do love cereal.  As for favorites, all the really sugary ones and therefore I probably only have them maybe once or twice a month usually.  My typical breakfast is some type of breakfast sandwich from a restaurant and a diet Coke.  Yeah, I know, real healthy.  Honestly though I just eat the meat and the egg and at most half of whatever kind of bread it's on.

4. Break ground, break of dawn, break down, break the bank, break one's stride, break the ice, break a law, break a habit, break bread...choose one of the idioms listed and tell us how it applies to your life currently. Break down - as we speak my van is in the shop having some kind of bearing replaced and we just picked up hubby's van after having an oil like repaired.  Pick one up and drop the other off...Ain't that the way of it!  lol

5. Where do you go to connect with friends and family? Church is a good place to be with my friends.  For family, sometimes we meet at a restaurant.   What do you like to do most when you're home alone? Read or watch TV, but it is rare that I'm home alone.

6. Insert your own random thought here. Hubby and I got new phones as our old ones were starting to have some glitches...mostly mine wouldn't stay charged for even a day and I do not like to have to worry about taking a charger with me.  Also, I wanted one with the new, improved camera.  We got iPhone 14 ProMax.  So far, I'm pretty happy with it and I think hubby is too.

I was standing in the drive up by our house
and this is in the neighbor's yard across
the street.  I'm pleased with the zoom effect.
  Isn't he pretty?

She actually looked at me so I could take
her picture.  I think the colors are a lot
better on this camera.

I like these sky shots too.

I definitely need to watch some YouTube videos to learn how to use this camera.  But I like what I've seen so far.

The Hodgepodge button at the top with take you to the link up.  Have a great day.

Bits of This and That and Tuesday 4

Good Tuesday Morning:

I usually do this post on Mondays, but it just didn't work out yesterday.  Sharing a bit of our weekend here today.  Nothing big, but it was enjoyable.

On Friday, hubby and I met my sister and her husband for lunch at Rod's Capricorn Inn.  Rod's is no longer owned by Rod, but t still carries that name.  Just recently it changed hands again, but they serve the same food and it's very good.  It's kinda out in the boondocks (so to speak) and takes us about 30 minutes or so to get there.  Usually, it's a nice drive, but Friday it was pouring the rain.  But it was so worth it.  Their burgers are delicious and so are their fries.  We shared an order of fries because their portions are huge.  So huge that we didn't even eat all of ours.  I took the below photo from their website.  Let me tell you, this is not an exaggeration. And I don't think any of us ate this sandwich.  lol  Oh and by the way, the plate is full of fries with the burger laying on top.

After that, hubby and I went to our phone company and ended up getting new phones and I'm still trying to get it set-up the way I want it.  But it's got a much better camera than my last phone.  So I'm happy.  That evening we watched a Hallmark movie and just relaxed at home.

On Saturday, we had absolutely beautiful weather.  We went and picked up hubby's mom and went and had Mexcan food at Chuy's for lunch.  That was good too!  After we got home, I left and met my sister and we went to the cemetery to put out some flowers.  It was definitely time to remove the Christmas decorations.

My brother, Larry

My aunt and uncle

My grandparents

Mom and Dad

Sunday was a good day with morning service and Sunday School and then home for a nap and back to church for the evening service.  Below is the pre-recording of the Sunday morning sermon.

Below is something I rarely do.  Take a selfie of myself.  But I love my new top that my sister gave me.  My sister is very good to me. I actually took the photo so I could show my sister how well it fits.  But here you go, I'm going to make you look at it.  lol

Taken at church Sunday morning.

Now, let's take a look at Tuesday 4.  Link is here.  Thanks Annie for another week of fun questions.

Time

Time flies and weeks just seem to fall by the way side faster and faster.    We all have time on our hands at some point and we all find that time gets away from us at other times.  It takes a lot of work to manage your time because it seems to be at odds with freedom and creativity in some ways.

Perhaps we might talk about time and how we use it.

1.  Early to bed, early to rise?  Do you have usual times to go to bed and get up in the morning? How do they work out for you?  We usually try to be in bed by 11:00.  Often we don't make it, like last night for instance.  Lights didn't go off until after midnight.  As for the morning, hubby usually sets the alarm for 7:30, but I'm usually awake sometime between 5:00 and 6:30.  I swear, I didn't get up this early when I was working.  I have no idea why I wake up like this, but it's okay.

2. Ecclesiastes  says "To everything there is a season  and a time to every purpose under heaven."

How much time is devoted to work, housework, hobbies? What about religious pursuits like study, prayer, services? In other words,  how is your time apportioned?  I'm retired, so no work time.  Housework just depends on what is needing done.  Hobbies - blogging probably takes most of the time, but I do work in some crochet and other things as I want to.  I read my Bible most every day and I pray off and on all day.  I really don't have any of these things on a schedule since I'm retired.  In enjoy being able to do it when I want to'

3. Do you think you manage your time well or would you like to improve? How would you improve?  Oh, I'm sure I could improve...but I'm pretty content with the ways things are.

4. Do you think time travel is possible? Why or why not? No, I do not think time travel is possible, except for God does it.  He is in the past, the now and the future all at the same time.  He is already working on things for my problems, joys and issues coming in the next day, week, month, years, etc.  It's all in His hands and I have no desire to get there before He puts me there.  And I have no desire to go back in time either.

Well, that's it for now.  Hope you have a great day!  I plan to.  Our Ladies' Bible Study starts tonight and I'm looking forward to it.

Cathy
