Tuesday 4

Moving

Welcome to Tuesday 4 kept up in memory of our friend Toni Taddeo who began it several years ago.  She would be so pleased to see people keeping up with it!

Let's talk about moving today.

1. How far away are you from where you grew up?  I am within 15 miles of where I grew up.

2. Families sometimes move all over the country. Do you feel that a family should try to stay close together?  I think it's up to the family.  I have always lived within probably a 15 mile radius of where I am now.  But as you all know my girls live in Florida and Texas and I'm okay with that too.

3. How many times have you moved in your life and would you like to share when and where you moved?  I have moved 12 times in my life.  Again, all have been in this general area.  We moved 5 times with my parents.  They loved to buy homes and remodel them and we'd live there for a few years and they'd do it again.  Also, my dad built some of the homes we lived in.  Because of this moving, I went to 3 elementary schools, 1 Junior High and 2 High Schools.  But again, they were all in this general area.  Then I lived in 3 different places with my sister and I've lived in 4 different places with my hubby.

4. What brought you to where you are living now and are you happy there?  My dad offered to build us a home about the time we were getting ready to adopt our girls.  There were reasons that we needed to leave where we were living at that time.  I love where we live (as my dad built it) and I'm content staying there.  But the day may come when we will decide to downsize and maybe move to a condo.  Currently I believe it will be in this general area too.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great day.  You can click on the first paragraph if you would like to link up and join in for the fun.

Friday Photos

Here are a couple of photos I took this week.

Lucy, my little cutie

My daughter's wedding invitation.  A lady at worked framed it and placed it in the lobby of the Church

Beautiful Cardinal I saw in the neighbor's tree.  I ran in and got the camera and zoomed in clear across our front yard and got this.  He is gorgeous!

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Today I am thankful for

**Thirty-two years ago today, Tracy and I were married. I can hardly believe that it’s been that long. He is my soul mate and my best friend. He is the love of my life and the head of our home. He is my encourager and my biggest fan. I can’t imagine traveling this journey without him. He is a wonderful father and grandpa. He is also my pastor. He follows after Jesus and helps me as I follow Jesus too.  I am so thankful for these years and hope and pray we will have many more.

**Five years ago today I had my first chemo treatment for Stage 3 breast cancer. I underwent about 5-6 months of chemo and then had a lumpectomy and found that that was not enough and about 3 weeks later I had a complete mastectomy with the removal of many lymph nodes. After healing from that I then underwent about 30 radiation treatments. At that point (early December 2016) they felt they had removed all the cancer. So for the past 5 years now I go twice annually to see my oncologist and I see the surgeon once a year when I have my mammogram. As far as we know I am still cancer free and doing well. God was so good to me through all that year and gave me a peace that I will never understand. I can’t even imagine how I would have made it through without Him.

So you can see I have lots to be thankful for today.  I am so very blessed.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. This week's Hodgepodge lands on Ash Wednesday which signals the beginning of Lent. Do you mark this season in some way? No, not usually. If so tell us more. Did you grow up 'celebrating' Lent? No Is attending church part of your weekly routine? Yes, it is.  My husband is my pastor.  Are churches open for in-person worship where you live? Some are and some are not.  We are a very small congregation so we have no trouble social distancing and most wear masks.  We meet on Sunday morning and Sunday evening and our Wednesday night Bible Study is live on FB and then posted to our YouTube page.

2. When is the last time you sat beside a 'real' fire? I started thinking about this and I really cannot remember the last time and that's a real shame.  Do you have a fireplace in your home? No, we don't have a fireplace.  Wood or gas logs? Favorite thing cooked over a fire? Breakfast. When I was little our church used to meet at a campground and cook breakfast and it was always so delicious.  Actually, that was probably on a grill not a fire as I think back.  As for over and actual fire, I guess it would be a hotdog.

3. Something that's currently got you fired up?  A lot of what is going on in this country right now fires me up.  However, I refuse to talk about it online and I refuse to watch news because I'm trying to deliberately trust it all to God.  Since I am His child, I know nothing happens to me that does not first pass through His Hand and I trust Him.  So instead I'll go with this.  Does it count, that I'm ready for winter to end (all this snow is crazy...beautiful...but crazy!

4. February also happens to be National Cabbage Day. Who knew? Not me.  Do you like cabbage? Yes. Is cabbage on your menu Wednesday? No. Of the following cabbage dishes which is your favorite-coleslaw (mayo or vinegar?), sauerkraut, cabbage rolls, cabbage soup, kielbasa and cabbage, grilled cabbage, bubble and squeak, kimchi, or haluski? Kielbasa and sauerkraut.

5. Do you hang on to pennies? No, not really.  What do you do with them?  I spend them and yes, I do pick them up off the ground when I see them.  Last thing you purchased for $1.00? A Diet Coke from McDonald's.  Last thing you purchased for $5.00? A really nice zip-up journal or note book from the store called "Five Below."  I love it.  I can carry it in my purse and the pages don't get messed up.  I use it to write quotes or scripture that I really like.  Especially those Fear Not verses that remind me of my word this year which is Fearless.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Thank you for visiting and I hope you have a wonderful day.

Thankful Thursday

Taking a moment to be thankful is a good thing.

**This week I am thankful to be alive and healthy.

**On Tuesday when we got up we had about 6-8 inches of snow.  We got ready for work and then went out and realized we probably should shovel out the drive instead of just driving over it.  We knew they were expecting more snow over the next several days.  So I called work and told them I'd be late or I'd be taking a personal day.  We started shoveling and were just getting ready to take a break and the neighbor man from across the street came over with his shovel and started helping us.  He hadn't even done his own yet.  We got that drive completed in about 30 minutes.  We are just so blessed with really good neighbors.

**While I don't really like the cold and snow, I do have to say it is really beautiful.

**Loving those audio books at work.  Just finished The Tattooist of Auschwitz and now I'm listening to Home Work which is a memoir of Julie Andrews and she is reading it.  Love it!

**Thankful for Pet Smart and their groomers.  They did such a good job on Lucy.

So what are you thankful for?

Some things I am thankful for today:

**Vet appointment after work to get Lucy's rabies shot and it's a car appointment so I don't have to wrestle with her in the office.

**Groomer's appointment after work Monday because she really needs it.

**A sister who was going to Joann's to get some yarn on sale and bought some for me too.  She's the best!

**A hubby who doesn't mind how much yarn I buy and supports me in my addiction.  lol

**My knitting machine and how much fun it is when you have the right yarn and learning which works and which doesn't.  Below are some I've made this week.

**I'm thankful for audio books I can listen to at work.  Currently listing to "The Tattooist of Auschwitz" which is a novel based on a true story.  Interesting.

**My Kindle which I'm reading a really good series, which I've read before.  I love reading series books.

**And most of all I'm thankful for Jesus Christ who loves me beyond distraction!

So what are you thankful for today?

A Sentence A Day - January 2021

My January 2021:

1 - Friday.  Love having a day off work and spending it with hubby and we ate pork and sauerkraut per tradition.

5 - Tuesday.  We saw this guy after work on the way home.

6 - Wednesday.  Work and Online Bible Study on the life of Paul.

7 - Thursday.  This scripture really meant a lot to me on this day "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you.  Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10.

8 - Friday.  Ordered in pizza for supper and watched TV.

10 - Sunday.  Again church, McDonald's for lunch and then another Sunday nap and made another hat.

11 - Monday.  Work and then picked up groceries from Kroger Pick-Up, which I totally love and packed up some Christmas along with sorting out items we have used for several years.

12 - Tuesday.  Had planned to go out to dinner with hubby's mom but someone came into work today that had just had a COVID test and found out after they left they tested positive - I wasn't that close to the person, but no way would we take a chance of making his mom sick.

13 - Wednesday. Busy day at work and then home and to church and then quiet evening at home reading and watching TV.

14 - Thursday. Tried grilling pork chops on our indoor electric grill and they were delicious and then I completed 2 more hats minus the pompoms.

15 - Friday.  Ordered in pizza and watched TV and did some knitting.

16 - Saturday.  Met my sister and her husband for lunch and then I shopped for some yarn & we ran errands and then met up with sister later to use a coupon and do some more yarn shopping.

17 - Sunday.  Church and then he got some McD's and I got Taco Bell and ate in the car and then went home and took a nap and back to church.

18 - Monday.  Got to visit with our sister face to face inside for the first time since about March or April of last year.

19 - Tuesday.  Back to work after a 3 day weekend...yuck!

20 - Wednesday.  Went to dinner with hubby's mom to get her out of the house for a bit as this would have been their 65th wedding anniversary and it's her first without him.

21 - Thursday.  We finally had some beautiful blue skies and sunshine.

22 - Friday.  Did some shopping online and ordered an outfit for the wedding...let's see if it will work.

23 - Saturday.  Cooked breakfast at home and went out later in the day and had lunch and ran errands and then went to Joann's with my sister and bought more yarn that was on a fabulous sale and also completed a scarf and hat set that I love.

24 - Sunday.  Church and lunch out and then a nap and worked on another hat and scarf set.

25 - Monday.  First anniversary of the death of hubby's dad.

26 - Tuesday.  Work and then home and we cooked dinner and then watched some NCIS and did some knitting.

27 - Wednesday.

28 - Thursday.  Went for a walk with the dog after work and saw this fella on our roof.

29 - Friday.  Picked up some chicken on the way home after work.

30 - Saturday.  Ran some errands and had a quiet day at home with lots of reading

31 - Sunday  lots of sleet but we went to church and there were just six of us so we sang a song and had a short lesson and prayer and went home for the day
