Go here to join in the fun of Friday Fragments.
It's been quiet around our house this week. Not a lot to post (even in fragments).
It has been really cold here - but it seems it's pretty cold most everywhere. haha
Kelli heads back to school on Monday. I know she can't wait! I love having her here but I know I will also enjoy getting to use that bathroom again all to myself. Does that make me selfish?
I think there is a little puppy at our house that is really gonna miss her. Once Kelli leaves, that little girl will be by herself during the day when mommy and daddy are at work.
Me thinks mommy and daddy are going to get a really good work-out at night when we get home from work after that puppy has rested all day. At least I hope she rests. Hoping we don't come home to a torn up house.
We still haven't found a gate to lock her up in a room without her finding a way out. I hate to keep her locked in her cage all day, when she already sleeps all night in there. Anyone have any ideas. She is quite the climber! Also, I really don't want to close her behind a door either because I'm afraid she'll scratch it up.
Here's a crazy idea (not sure if is still available). I heard that a dog channel was started last year. The idea is for stay-at-home-dogs (is that a term? ha) to be able to watch other dogs and scenery on TV. Sounds crazy to me but I do know dogs will notice stuff on TV.
ReplyDeleteWell, if it makes you feel any better, a vet we saw when we had our first dog said a crate is a kindness. It is a safe place, keeps you from feeling angry since they cannot destroy the house, and they get used to whatever space they are given. We tried just containing our first dog in the kitchen, but she managed to find something new to show here irritation every day, including gnawing the edge of the kitchen island and chewing thru some linoleum. It was her or me. She was a wonderful dog once she knew I was boss. Most of the time, sometimes she was still boss : )
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the puppy's transition to being alone. Sometimes that's so hard for them!
ReplyDeletemy last one leaves for college on Tuesday. Oh my a puppy. Jason's girlfriend was here for 10 days and had her 7 mo aussie puppy with her. Let me just say.....I don't miss the puppy!!!! :/
ReplyDeleteI can't believe she's climbing them!!! Our Harvey who is TALL hasn't even figured out that part yet :)
ReplyDeleteNo ideas here. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWe have always crated our dogs, even when they were little. I kept a radio playing, tuned to a talkshow station. They get used to it and really don't mind. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteAs a mom, I totally understand your being ready for back to school - evne though I had one at home last week because of illness it was much quieter without the fighting when the other two went back to school!
ReplyDeletePuppies can be quite destructive, that I remember when I had kids at home. But ya just have to go with the flow and hope for the best 'cause they'll soon outgrow that trait and you'll wish she was a cute puppy. Try and have the TV or something going during the time you're gone....the voices seem to calm them some.
ReplyDeleteWhile crates seem cruel to us humans, everything I've read indicates that they are essentially a nest for dogs. We crated our dogs when we were gone, even when they were adults.
ReplyDeleteNo your not being selfish. I know you will miss her but I'm glad she is happy. Enjoy the weekend with her.
ReplyDeleteRight after we got Laika, I tried EVERYTHING to confine her to 1 area, but nothing worked. Even when we crated her, she used the bathroom in the crate and tore up the bottom of it. Of course, we have a couple of other dogs that she wanted to be around, so I'm assuming that's why we had such a problem! Things were actually a lot better when we just allowed her to roam the house.
