Share 4 Somethings - September 2024

This is my September post of Share 4 Somethings, where I'll talk about the things I loved/disliked, accomplished, improved upon/needs improvement and something I noticed. Link-up is here.

Loved or Disliked:  I've been enjoying working jigsaw puzzles this month.  Fall and winter are my favorite times to work puzzles. Just started another last night and plan to finish today.  That will make a total of 4 puzzles for me this year.

Currently working this one

Accomplished: I’ve read 3 books this month. I'm rather behind on my 2024 Reading Challenge.  I'm not sure I'll reach the goal, but I am sure I will enjoy whatever progress I make.

Improved Upon/Needs Improvement: Grooming definitely improved Lucy's look.

Before

After

Noticed: The days are getting shorter and cooler and we're finally getting some much needed rain.  Yay!  I actually wore a 3 quarter length sleeved shirt yesterday which I wore last fall and winter.  And I've worn my hoodie a couple times too.

That's the end of my Share 4 Somethings this month.  Thanks for reading and I hope you have a great weekend. Again, the Link-up is here.

Wednesday Hodgepodge - Fall Y'all!

Click above to link up with Joyce

1. It's officially fall y'all...in the northern hemisphere anyway. What are three of your favorite things about this particular season of the year?

The beautiful colors of the trees
The cooler temperatures
Crockpot cooking and soups

2. Your favorite fall fabric-denim, flannel, tweed, corduroy, tartan, polar fleece, leather? Do you own something made with your favorite fall fabric? What I love is wearing hoodies.

3. According to Everyday Health here are ten healthy fall foods- apples (flavonoids may improve brain health), pears (for heart friendly fiber), cranberries (helps your body fight oxidative stress) winter squash (for eye health), pumpkin (another great source of Vitamin A), leeks (an anti-inflammatory food), brussel sprouts (full of fiber and anti-oxidants), sweet potatoes (loaded with Vit A and C), parsnips (keep your bones healthy with Vit K), and broccoli (may help prevent cancer). How many on the list do you eat on a regular basis? Which one is your favorite? Which one gets a big no thanks from you?   Of this list sweet potatoes is probably the favorite, but I like apples and cranberries too.  Least favorite is brussel sprouts.

4. Tell us about the last time (or a recent time) you experienced a wave of nostalgia? I feel nostalgic when I see pictures of my mom and dad.  The other day I drove by one of the many homes I lived in growing up.  Definitely, it brought back a lot of memories.  Someone has painted it and I think it's very pretty.  But I loved it when dad built it and we lived there.  It was red brick with a beautiful yellow front door.  The 2 window on the right was the girls' bedroom.  All 3 of us girls lived in there.  It was a huge room, or at least as a young girls I thought it was large.  It had pink walls (think Pepto-bismol).  As we lived there dad finished out the basement.  There was a second kitchen down there and a huge fireplace and there was a shuffleboard area worked into the tile and we also had a ping pong table.  So many memories were made in this home, even though we only lived there about 3 1/2 years.

Memories

5. Sept. 22nd was National Daughter's Day. Like mother, like daughter...does this idiom ring true for you? You may answer in terms of your own role as a daughter or, if you have daughters, then your role as a mother of daughters. Yes, I think it's true.  I act like my mom a lot and I'm okay with that.  She was a pretty great lady.  Now if I can be just half as good as her, that would be great.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  Some funnies I ran across and posted on my blog many years ago.  Still, they make me laugh.

I think I found this on a bathroom wall.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great day.

Bits of This and That - Hello Monday

Good Morning:

Hope you are having a good day.  We slept in a little this morning and then we got ready and picked up some breakfast from Bob Evans and came to the church.  I did not get but a couple of bites of my breakfast when a couple stopped in to see us.  They used to come here to church,  but for the last couple of years they are going to a church closer to their home.  They had to drive around 40 minutes to get here and the husband is not in great health and she is now taking care of all of their home jobs that he used to do, plus all she already did.  We miss them, but they stop in every once in a while and that has been really good.  I so enjoyed catching up with them.  Then another couple from church stopped in and we enjoyed seeing them and talking with them too.  They are another elderly couple and they have some health issues too, and have decided, at least for a while, to attend a church nearer to their home.  We are a small church and it is difficult for us when we lose people, but we have to stay encouraged and keep doing what God has called us to with the people (whom we love dearly) we have.  We love our church and know that God will bring us more people when He sees fit.  And most of all, we know that He will never leave us.  If you pray, we would definitely appreciate prayer for our church.

Now onto the weekend.

On Friday hubby and I had a chiropractor appointment and then I caught with my sister and we went to a School Supply Store and I got some things for the church bulletin board.  It's definitely time to change to a fall bulletin board.  I'll be getting to that this week sometime.  Then we went to Sam's and I got some stuff we needed. My favorite so far is one of their rotisserie chickens which I used to make a Chicken and Noodles recipe that my husband found.  Friday evening we spent at home and I worked this puzzle.

This was a really fun puzzle to work.

Saturday was a nice day.  We spent most of it at home.  I cleaned part of the pantry.  One shelf at a time works best for me.

This is much better.

I've enjoyed how the moon has been out still every morning for our walk.

We did go out for a bit.  We took Lucy to the groomers, which she needed really bad as evidenced by the below photos.  lol

She definitely looks much better.

I took the rotisserie chicken from Sam's and deboned it and added some other things and made chicken and noodles.  It was pretty good, but I want to tweak it some before we make it again.  I did 4 loads of laundry and we watched Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.  So it was a little busy, but not too bad.

On Sunday we had church very good sermon on Yahweh Shalom (pre-recorded video below). Then we stopped and picked up a sandwich from Penn Station for lunch, took a nap and then back for our evening Bible Study on Grace and Truth.  Very good study.

Well that's pretty much my weekend.  I'm linking this post with Holly and Sarah  for Hello Monday.

Thanks for visiting and I'd love to hear about your weekend.

Thankful Thursday and Friday Photos and Friday Favorites

Good Morning:

I accidently left my computer at church yesterday, so I didn't have it here to make a Thankful Thursday post.  I picked it up today and am just now taking time to write a post.  I'm going to make a combo post of Thanks and Friday Photos.  I only have four photos and they are from this morning's walk with Lucy.  We walked around 8:00am and the temperature was 61 degrees which was just about perfect.

Lucy walking up the hill towards the east.

She was pretty much a slowpoke this morning, but that's
okay, cause I'm pretty slow too.  Some days it
seems she wants to smell every blade of grass.  lol

The moon was still out

Here's a close up

I am so thankful for beautiful mornings when I get to walk.  And of course I'm always thankful when I wake up on this side of the dirt to have another day to enjoy all of God's beautiful creations.  What are you thankful for?

Here are a few Friday Favorites.

Working a jigsaw puzzle

It's a favorite to have another one ready to work next.

Another favorite is shopping with my sister.  That's what we did this morning.  We went to a school supply store so I could buy some things for the bulletin board in the lobby of church.  I got some really cool things for fall.  Then we went to Sam's and I got more than I really planned, but so fun.  Next was Hobby Lobby where I bought another jigsaw puzzle at half price which I'll save until closer to Christmas.

Another favorite was finishing a book last night (see in my sidebar) and having another set up and ready to start reading hopefully later this evening.

Thanks for visiting.  What are you thankful for and what are some of your favorite things.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Good Morning:  I'm linking up with Joyce today.  You can link up here.

1. Something that's had you 'chuffed to bits' (very happy or pleased) recently? I'm very pleased with our Ladies' Bible Study.  We had such a great time together last night.  We had a really good time of prayer at the end.  It seemed we were all together in one accord, which is a wonderful place to be.  I love all these women, most I've known for a long time and some not so long and then we had a completely new person join us this week and two new ones last week.  I cannot even begin to tell you how they have encouraged me and prayed for me over the years and I've done the same for them.  If you are not part of a Ladies' Bible Study, I would highly recommend finding one or starting one.

2. Tell us about an instance recently where you were tempted to 'throw a wobbly' (expression used to describe tantrums thrown, usually by adults or people who should know better). I can't think of anything in particular, but little insignificant things can sometimes make me want to throw a wobbly. For instance, maybe a reckless driver and I may fuss at them in my car, but never in person.

3. Something everyone seems to love but is not your 'cuppa tea'? Tea and coffee.  I do not like either.

4. Fish and chips, bangers and mash, shepherd's pie, roast beef with Yorkshire pudding...which entree would you choose? Yes, you have to choose. Fish and Chips, but I also would be willing to try all of them.

5. Something you want for your birthday this year? Too late as mine has already passed. As long as I hear from both my girls and can be with hubby, I'm all good.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  This sounds about right.  lol

Thanks for visiting.

Bits of This and That - Hello Monday

Good Morning:

It's been a good weekend.

On Friday, we went to hubby's mom's and he worked on getting her iPad and Roku TV set up.  She just recently got internet in her home.  She and I went and picked up some lunch from Olive Garden and had lunch at her house.  It was a good time of good food and good talking and getting her stuff set up.  After that we headed home and had a quiet evening together, just the way we like it. Also, Friday was my blogoversary.  I've been here since 2008.  I can hardly believe it's been this long.

On Saturday, we ran some errands and then spent the rest of the day at home.  I did some laundry and pulled out some fall decorations. That evening we watched the third Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Sunday we had church (pre-recorded sermon below) and brought home a sandwich for lunch and took a nap and then back for evening service.

Friday was our youngest daughter's 30th birthday and today, Monday is Colton's 8th Birthday.  Man, time is going way too fast!  Love these two lots.

Opened his gifts early

At Disney World on Saturday

Aunt Kelli, Colton & Kerri

Happy Birthday Kerri and Colton!  Talk to you later today!

That was pretty much our weekend.  Hope you had a good one. I'm linking up with Holly and Sarah at Hello Monday.

Thanks for visiting.

Thankful Thursday

Good morning:

I try on most Thursdays to make a post of things I am thankful for.  I believe it’s important to be intentional about giving thanks to the Lord, because He is worthy.  So, here are a few of the things I’m thinking about and giving praise to God for.

Music - I love many different kinds of music and I’m so thankful for the joy it brings to me and that we can use music to honor and praise Him.

Laughter - I love to laugh and I love to hear others laugh. A good belly laugh can sure add a lot of joy to my day.

Bible Study - Our fall Bible Study started Tuesday.  It was so good seeing all these ladies again and having some new ones join us too.  We’re studying Luke using this study by Lisa Harper.

Skies - I love beautiful sun rises and sunsets. I love night skies and day skies. I love seeing all the beautiful skies that God gives us. I don’t know how anyone can look up at the sky and then believe there is no God.

Family and Friends - I am so grateful for my immediate family and my extended family, my church family, my friends and my blogging friends. I feel so blessed having all these in my life.

So, what’s something you are thankful for today?  I’d love to know. Thanks for visiting here.
