My husband preached about David and Goliath today. It was very good. I thought I'd share just a small part of it. He talked about fear and how the Israelites were afraid to fight Goliath because he was so big. But David came and didn't focus on the fact that Goliath was big. Instead, he focused on how big his God is. In 1 Samuel 17:45 it says: "Then David said to the Philistine, 'You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied." and verse 47 says "Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD's and He will give you into our hands." So If you want to minimize your giants, you need to magnify God. My husband gave each one of us a smooth stone (like David used to slay Goliath) and told us each time we look at it to remember this thought. Focus on giants - you stumble; Focus on God-your giants tumble.
I don't know about you, but I intend to focus on my God; not on the giants in my life.
