Thanksgiving Day

For the past 10 years or so our church has had a Community Thanksgiving Dinner for anyone who doesn't have somewhere to go on Thanksgiving. We also deliver dinners to shut-ins and offer dinners to any law enforcement personnel working on Thanksgiving. We serve the traditional Thanksgiving Dinner of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, green beans, applesauce, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. This year they served somewhere between 330-350 dinners on Thanksgiving with about 40 law enforcement personnel being served. We are a small congregation of about 35-40 people and this is a ministry that we feel is very important to our town. My husband and oldest daughter went down early and helped with some of the deliveries and stuff like that.

We went to my sister's house for Thanksgiving this year. All of my brothers and sisters and their families were there and so were my mom and dad. We had a great time. The food was awesome and the company was even better.

Then about 2:30 or so, Tracy and I and the girls headed down to the church for the clean-up duty after the dinner. By this time the ones that have been serving are tired and more than ready to let us come in and do our part. But not only did we go, my 2 nephews and my sister's granddaughter, my dad and my younger sister all went too. With all this help, plus one or two others who stayed to help, we had it cleaned up in no time. I just love it when everyone pitches in like that.

We then went back to my sisters for some more family time and some dessert too.

I asked my younger sister if she would take a few pictures of Tracy and I and the girls hoping to maybe get something we could use on a Christmas card. We've never done a photo Christmas card (mainly because Tracy and I try to avoid the front side of the camera- I much prefer being behind the camera). She agreed, so we headed outside and tried to look like we weren't freezing and she took a few pictures. My sister is really a very good photographer, but did not have her camera that day, so she used mine. She didn't know anything about the settings on my camera, so she wasn't so pleased with the pictures. But I don't know anything about f-stops and white balances and stuff, so I think they are fine. Anyway, the first picture is the one we chose and had put on our Christmas card.

Thank you Lord, for such a wonderful family and church family. You are so awesome and greatly to be praised.

  1. Cathy,

That is awesome that your church does that for thanksgiving..what a blessing you are to the community, being His hands extended. love this idea. Your pictures are very nice. You should always do a photo card. I can say that because I always do...but almost every year it has only been my kids :) I am getting better about being in the pictures too.
    Takes some getting used to.
