Wednesday Hodgepodge - Final for 2022

1. Did you set any goals for the new year this time last year? Did you meet them or miss the mark? Tell us more if you're comfortable sharing. No I really didn't set goals, except maybe to just enjoy retirement.  My last day of work was December 31st.  So January 1st was the first day of retirement.  All I can say is that I love being retired.  I miss the people I worked with, but I've seen some of them throughout the year and it's been good.  I mostly keep busy, and I spend a lot of time in my office at church and I plan to do the same in 2023.

 2. What are three words that might describe the kind of person you were this past year or describe in some way how your life looked? Joyful (mostly), Loved (always) and Content (sometimes more so than others).

 3. What's something new you ate, saw, heard, or experienced in 2022? What did you think? I saw/heard a concert of harps and it was beautiful and I loved it and hope to go again in 2023.

 4. Oxford Dictionary has announced it's word of the year for 2022, and it's this-goblin mode. Huh? Have you ever heard this phrase? Used this phrase? It's defined as "a type of behavior which is unapologetically self-indulgent, lazy, slovenly, or greedy, typically in a way that rejects social norms or expectations." This year they allowed the public to choose amongst three finalists. You can read more about that here. If you were in charge, what word would you declare word of the year for 2022? Never heard of this phrase.  I have no idea what word I'd choose for this.  But for me personally the word would be Joy! Joy doesn't always mean happy and laughing, but joy is a choice and while I don't always succeed in being joyous.  I believe I do it better now than a year ago.

 5. Any special plans for an end of year celebration in your house or town? The travel channel says the world's best New Year's Eve celebrations will happen in Copacabana Beach-Rio de Janerio, the Orlando theme parks in Florida, London, Sydney, New York's Time Square, Edinburgh Scotland, and Paris. If you could attend any one of these which would you choose? Tell us why? We do not have special plans for this year, at least not yet.  If I were to attend any of those it would be Magic Kingdom at Disney World, just because I love Disney and would love to do it one more time with my kids and their families and my grandson.  But truly, I'd rather do this some other day and not on New Years Eve.

 6. Insert your own random thought here.  I think 2022 has been a good year and I hope I will have many more years to enjoy being retired.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a good day.

  1. I'm fascinated by the harp, such an unusual instrument. A well known harpist will be in our nearby city this winter performing in concert. I'd like to go but not sure we can make the date work. Happy new year!!

    1. This one was awesome. There were 12 harps in total and in those 12 there were 2 different styles of harps. It was such a beautiful concert. If you can make it work with your schedule, I can't imagine that you wouldn't love it.

  2. Cathy, I am trying to imagine the majestic sounds of 12 harps being played together, and have nothing to compare it to. Just the picture of them brings chills. Years ago, we were at a church encampment in New Mexico and while setting up our camper began hearing the music of a harp. It came from a nearby camper and the reverberating outdoor sounds was the most heavenly sound I've ever heard. Multiply that times 12 and it's beyond my comprehension. So enjoyed all your answers this week, and do wish you a most Happy New Year.

    1. It truly was beautiful and I learned some things too that were very interesting and the old church the concert was held in was beautiful! My pictures do not do it justice.

  3. I love your definition of JOY! Sometimes we have to look a little harder, but ya, it's out there.

  4. I would not want to go to Disneyland on NY eve either. It was not bad when my husband and I went because all passholders were blocked. I heard a harpist a couple of years ago and she was great. I bet 12 of them must have been heavenly. Happy New Year Cathy. I am glad you are retired.

  7. A harp concert sounds like it would be amazing! Wow. I need to find some harp music on YouTube. Magic Kingdom is where I picked up covid in November. I can't imagine the crowd there on New Year's Eve. Stay away!! I enjoyed your answers, Cathy! Blessings to you and yours in the new year!

    1. You better believe I'll stay away. Crowds are always pretty big a Magic Kingdom...I can't imagine what it would be like on News Years.

  8. I enjoyed your answers and the pictures of the church and the harpists...I can imagine that was "divine". I love harp music. JOY is a beautiful word, and you explained it exactly right. We can have joy in our hearts even when we are sad...it is a choice that we make because we know where true JOY comes from, and it is like a never ending fountain bubbling up inside of us. New Years Eve will find me right here in my bed. I have no desire to be anywhere else. Visiting other places is fine on other days, but not holidays. I would not want to deal with the crowds and traffic. Have a blessed and beautiful New Year's.
