If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Bits of This and That - Christmas Weekend

The snow started Thursday night.  Here are a couple of pictures in the dark with a flashlight that show how much the wind was blowing and how hard the snow was coming down.  They were reporting that we were going to have extremely hard winds on Friday, so I took in all of our outside decorations, so nothing would get broken or blown away.  I'm really glad I did that.

On Friday the temperatures were so frigid.  Trying to take Lucy out was horrible.  I think with the sub-zero temperature and then the wind chill factor even lower, her little feet couldn't take it. So basically we stayed inside most all day Friday.  We watched movies, did some reading of blogs and a book. Hubby made chili that was delicious as always.

Saturday, we ventured out for a short time,  Hubby was trying to decide what to do about church.  We drove over to the church and the lot had been scraped by one of hubby's friends.  He finally decided that he was going to cancel church, as the sidewalks were still covered and also we knew with the frigid temperatures, it would all freeze over again overnight.  He just didn't want to take any chances that someone would fall and get injured.  And also the roads weren't that great either.  So while we were out we grabbed lunch from a drive-thru and came home for the night.  Actually, it's Monday at 2:13 while I'm typing this and we haven't moved the car since we came home on Saturday.  It's very rare for us to be home this much!  We ate leftover chili on Saturday for dinner.

Sunday-Christmas Day was quiet.  Again just hubby, me and Lucy.  We talked with both girls and our grandson a couple of times throughout the day.  We were supposed to have church, then lunch at my sister's, but they were sick and we had to cancel out.  But I did talk to my brother and both sisters that day on the phone.  We baked a ham for lunch along with mashed potatoes and broccoli and cauliflower.  It was all delicious.  We watched White Christmas and napped a little and just tried to enjoy the day for what it was.  Things don't always go as planned, but we can choose to be joyful or we can choose to be miserable.  I choose joy!

Here is the pre-recorded sermon for Sunday for the 5th week of Advent.

So how was your Christmas?  I'd love to hear about it.  Thanks for visiting.

  1. Burr....that sounds really cold. I know our daughter it Great Fall, MT has had a lot of snow and cold temps. Her dog is super tiny and goes very quickly outside. We on the other hand were 80 degrees yesterday! Sounds like a good day with movies and the chili. Sorry that church had to be cancelled. True, things don't always go as planned but as long as everyone is safe that is a blessing.

  2. Gosh, those photos speak volumes. Poor Lucy! I was kidding Tom, didn't he remember all the years he lived in Chicago. Nope, he had another 40 years to thaw out in Arizona. I'm no expert, but glad your hubby elected to err on the side of caution and cancel services; wouldn't it have been awful had someone slipped on the ice and broke a hip!?

  3. Our weather was pretty much the same as yours and other than daring to go out to finish a bit of shopping we stayed in. My church didn't have a service on Sunday but as far as I know they did have the Christmas Eve service. Tim wouldn't have gone, which meant I'd have had to drive so I stayed home. I have a feeling very few people ventured out for it. Our family was all together for Christmas, but probably only because we all live next door to each other. It wasn't the usual, but it was good anyway. I'm glad you and your hubby enjoyed your quiet time together.

  4. We had a dusting of snow, but it wasn't much and the words weren't too bad. There were icy patches here and there, though, so they canceled one of the candlelight services at church over the weekend. We had two- one on Friday night and one Saturday afternoon. They canceled the Friday night one. Other than that, our Christmas was really beautiful because of the snow dusting and it was so much better than last year. Our day last year was sad and different because one of our sons couldn't be with us the whole day. It was something we didn't expect and that caught us off guard...

I'm glad to read that in spite of the difference of the day this year, you and your hubby still enjoyed it all and made the most out of something you had no control over. I am like you and will always choose joy...or I will try to do that. There's no sense in crying over spilled milk, as my grandmother used to say. Thanks for sharing, my friend. Much love!

    1. Thanks for visiting and commenting. I know the feeling of not being with all of your kids. But we've adjusted and find ways to communicate by phone or video or Marco Polo.

  5. Such bad timing for that weather to come right on the holidays!!! But I'm glad you all made the smart call - it'd be awful to have an accident during the season. I'm done with snow & cold for the year already!
