Saturday 9 - The Christmas Song

The Christmas Song

Welcome to Saturday: 9. The Christmas Song (1964)

 1) While this song was published as "The Christmas Song," many people refer to it as "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire." Have you ever roasted chestnuts (in an open fire or in the oven)? No, I have not roasted them and as far as I know, I've never eaten one either.

2) Ricky Nelson sings that turkey helps make the season bright. Many of us just had turkey last month for Thanksgiving. Do you enjoy turkey all year around? Or do you consider it a seasonal dish?  We eat it all year round.

3) He wishes "Merry Christmas" to kids from 1 to 92. Who is the youngest person you will celebrate the holidays with?  Honestly, at this point, I don't know who we'll be with, if anybody.  My sister was going to host, but she's sick and we planned some time with my mother-in-law, but she is sick too.

4) "The Christmas Song" is a perennial favorite and gets lots of play this time of year. Is there a holiday song that you think is overplayed, and that you hope to not hear again (at least not until December 2023)? Not really, I just enjoy most all of them.

5) This version of the song is from The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, the sitcom that ran from 1952 to 1966. There were 435 episodes in all. Is there a series whose every episode you've seen? NCIS

6) Life magazine coined the phrase "teen idol" to describe Ricky's popularity. In your younger days, did you have a crush on a teen idol? Sure, Bobby Sherman was who came to mind first and there were many others, I'm sure.

7) Do you have a funny/ugly holiday sweater? No, but I have some Christmassy earrings.

8) Have you received many holiday cards this year? Quite a few, actually. Did you send many? Yes.

9) If you were Santa, what cookie would you like kids to leave for you on Christmas Eve? Nestle's Tollhouse Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Thanks for visiting.

  2. Yay! Another vote for chocolate chip! We think our holiday plans may be upended, but by snow, not illness (at least so far). Bad weather forecast starting the 23rd.

  3. Oh nooooo, on your sick sister and MIL! There's so much 'crud' floating around, perhaps it's best not to take chances. Split a batch of those Tollhouse c/c cookies and call it dinner, LOL.
BTW, our weather's turned cold and I'm making your potato soup for supper.

  4. Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that your family members are sick. That's never good, but such a downer during the holidays. We haven't all been together for Thanksgiving for the last 3 years. I hope everyone gets better soon and you can all be together!

    1. It's okay. We'll just delay it a week or two and who knows? Maybe our brother and his wife will be able to come then. And on hubby's side we'll get it all figured out sooner or later. My sister is feeling some better, but now her hubby has it. We took hubby's mom to the emergency room per her doctor and she got a chest x-ray...all good. She tested positive for flu, but is on the downside now.

  5. Maybe everyone will be well by Christmas. I am worried I just haven't gotten sick "yet". The kids at school are sick and my husband is now sick too. Josh and I are ok so far. We have snow on the way too. Yikes. We will see how Christmas goes. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

  6. I am sorry to hear that your family is sick. That's what happened to me at Thanksgiving. I still am not sure what our plans for Christmas will be, since it is on Sunday I know my sister and her family can't make the 2 hour trip here as they are very active in their church, as are we. And Christmas Eve is not much better as we usually always have a lot of things to do, like wrapping gifts if they aren't done...lol. So we will probably just have our immediate family here, the boys, Rose, and probably the grandpups. Which is just fine with me. We may meet up with my sister and others after Christmas sometime in the next week. I do hope your family will be feeling better by Christmas and surprise you! Oh, we used to have a chestnut tree when we lived in Ohio, and I had a race with the chipmunks every morning to see who could get the most chestnuts! They were greedy little creatures! The few that we got I did roast in the oven, and also I remember using some in stuffing at Thanksgiving. They were good. Haven't had them since. That was over 40 years ago! (really? can't be that long...I'm not even that old. LOL!) Have a very Merry Christmas no matter what. Remember that Jesus is the reason we celebrate, and if we can't do it on the actual date, we can always do it later. I don't think Jesus will mind at all.

    1. I agree. I've learned pretty much to just go with the flow when it comes to things like this. Hubby and I will be fine whatever we do, as long as we don't get sick.
